    Hi everybody,

    I just wanted to let y'all know that the Chat Room is temporarily closed whilst it undergoes maintenance checks. :slight_smile:

    We'll hopefully have it up and running again ASAP!

    Hey peeps,

    I've requested an update on this to see where we are at with the maintenance.

    To clarify what's going on, we are revamping various security features for the chat room software. This includes reworking the logging system, and ensuring that all data posted in there, including private messages, remain secure. That's not to imply that there was any sort of data breach or bug exploitation to warrant this action. It was just an area of concern we identified during our standard review of the software, and we wanted to pre-emptively address it, rather than risk leaving it and allowing there to be a potential data risk.

    Unfortunately, the chat room feature isn't the most user-friendly feature in the world to manage, so we've had to refer the issue to an external admin whose technical expertise are vastly superior to the current admins'.

    Apologies for the delay. In the meantime, I appreciate the patience y'all have given us.

    Hi peeps,

    Chat has been open on a provisional basis for the last few hours, and we're happy to report that everything appears to be running as it should. The new security measures are now implemented and functional, so we're happy to re-open the Chat Room once again for y'all.

    There's a possibility we might have to take it down if any performance issues etc are reported or identified, but as of now everything looks good. We've been up for a few hours and it's still working at the same horrible standard it has done for years, so at least it hasn't gotten any worse. At the very least, it should limp along long enough for us to kick it into the gutter when the new IPB chat room comes in. :slight_smile:

    Anyways, we all really appreciate the patience you've given us. It has been a lot longer than we anticipated, and the issues we wanted to pre-emptively resolve took on a whole new level of complexity, but we got there. :slight_smile:

    With that in mind, enjoy Chat once again. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: Heaven forbid anybody notices any issues, please let either myself or a member of staff know, and we'll promptly deal with it once we've finished screaming into a pillow. :slight_smile:
