    Dear members,

I just wanted to let you all know of a change that has been made to your profile displays on the site.

As you may know, profiles on EC have had a 'Current Activity' display enabled, which allowed you to see what location a member was accessing at a given moment in time. Unfortunately, we have been required to disable this feature, in order to enhance the privacy that is afforded to members whilst online.

In particular, concerns have been raised regarding the level of detail that this activity display provided, as it would display information such as a member reporting a thread/post, or their activity inside the Anonymous Discussions section (e.g. creating a thread). As you can imagine, having this information on display fundamentally undermines the privacy sensitivities needed for these particular features, and allowing this flaw to remain would potentially have a detrimental impact on your ability to use them.

As a result, we have disabled the Current Activity display, instead only leaving the Last Activity timestamp enabled. This means that profiles will now only display the green light to highlight that a member is online, and you will only be able to access the timestamp for an individual's last activity. You will be able to see this for yourself in a profile.

We hope that this change does not have a negative effect on your EC experience, and that it allows you to feel more comfortable accessing the more sensitive areas/features of the site. It goes without saying that we take member privacy extremely seriously, and making changes such as this remains part of our aims to ensure that your privacy is respected and maintained at all times.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this change, please feel free to ask below.

    Thank you,

    Martin.
    On behalf of EC staff.
