What's the difference between friends and contacts?

    That's a very good question!

    I just took a look and found this:
    I'm pretty sure they're interchangeable, but a "friendship" has to be accepted by both parties and shows up on your profile under "friends". A contact would only show up on your "contacts and friends list" in My Settings.

    Feel free to add me as a contact and try it out!

    I'd add that it can be used as an added "security level," because you can choose to make an album available to either Everyone, Registered members Only, Contacts (including friends) only, or Friends (not all contacts) only.
    I have to admit I've never really thought about the difference.

    Ooooh that makes sense, so all permissions to Contacts apply to Friends, but not all permissions to Friends apply to Contacts? Did I get that right?

    I just did, do tell me if you get a notification when you see this.

    Ah! I don't have an album, so I didn't spot that. Though that does seem a little weird... so you can selectively share your photos with people who aren't "friends", by adding them as a contact and setting your album to "Contacts (including friends)". Haha, in reality, I think most members are happy to just send and accept friend requests.

    Nope, no notification. I can confirm... you are now stalking me.
