Just out of curiosity, what gets someone banned? I've noticed sometimes, that a member's profile will read "banned" and I'd forgotten why/how that happens, and for how long.
I'm wondering this too. Specifically Kaiser. I wanna know what happened. But I know they're not able to tell us.
There are a number of ways to get banned, and most of them are outlined in the code of conduct. Now ban reasons are private, and it has long been asked that these things not be discussed.
There's a wide variety of infractions that can result in a member receiving a ban. The Code of Conduct outlines all the rules for everyday usage, and violations of that put a member's access to the site at risk. As for the length, it varies on a case-by-case basis, depending on the nature of the ban and previous history of infractions.
Unfortunately, the Code of Conduct prohibits the staff team from providing details of a ban to the wider community, so we're not able to provide any information related to it, including lengths. Although acknowledgement of ban length isn't an exciting piece of information to have, it is still a piece of information that a member does not consent for the staff team to disclose in their absence, so there would need to be exceptional circumstances for staff to override that agreement. It's a longstanding privacy policy adopted by the staff team to help ensure that any sanctioned members aren't subjected to public discussions/speculation based on the personal whim of a staff member. Each member will have a different level of comfort on the amount of information they'd be comfortable having disclosed about them in their absence, so the only way to accommodate everybody equally is refraining from releasing information of bans and instead only discussing it in dialogue with the sanctioned individuals.
