the parent site of EC is actually banned in EC...so what is the parent site? all ive been able to gather from the entire of EC's site and forum is that you can't post links to the parent site, say what it's called and its only known as 'the adult forum' surely if they pay EC'S rent they should get a mention? im not interested in the afore-mentiones site but a bunch of people are interested in where EC originated, who owns it etc. etc.
If you want to find out more about EC's origins you can go to this handy-dandy page here and find out all about it. And, as you said you are not interested in the actual adult site, it's a good thing that it isn't mentioned.
The link biisme posted basically sums it up. Adult sites have a legal obligation to prevent underage viewers. Many users were (maybe still are) banned from the parent site for being underage, and redirected here. Given that this site has a lot of underage members it would be irresponsible to provide them with the name / address to an adult site / forum. Especially given things that have happened in the past with "inappropriate contact" between adults and minors on this site, and the subsequent clamping down on things (PM, regular member / full member, big red warning at the top). You used to be able to mention it by acronym, don't know if you can do that now. And the forum software will censor attempts at writing the name or url.
Gotta say, I was intrigued and did some quick googling to find out which site ya'll were taking about. It's good to know your roots, ya know? After quickly clicking towards the forum and trying to shield my eyes from the immense amounts of porn, I scrolled down. Past the the Fetish boards down to the Spirituality board. "Aha!" I thought, "This is my kind of area. Time for some lively debate!" But then I clicked on a thread aaaannnddd... Ew. So much penis. Like every third icon was PENIS PENIS PENIS. Blech.
The parent site does run a forum. Indeed many of our more prominent members have accounts there. The level of discussion or ability to provide any kind of support is severely impaired by the fact that nearly everyone came there for the porn. Way too much penis.
And even as someone who doesn't mind penis, I completely agree with you that on said other board, *everything* seems to be overshadowed by porn and porn imagery. I suppose that says something about gay men in general that that board (focused on sex and porn) has so much activity and this one so much less. But I think the quality of the posters and the conversations here are much, much better than at the other board, and the signal-to-noise ratio is also far, far better here than there. So I'm glad I spend time here and not there
And, at least the last I looked, the answers are generally not affirming of safety or healthy practices, nor is there the level of accuracy you find here. It certainly has its purpose and is very popular... just not really the sort of place where I enjoy spending time
Not to mention: Mentioning "The site that shall not be named" is against the rules, even if they did set up EC.
Twilight's next sequel: Full Mooning Also, although I have an account at The-Site-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named, there's a reason I don't use it. This site is freaking better
The owners don't need to have their company mentioned to be thanked for EC's existance. They created this site so that they could seperate it from the other site, and it would be a bit self-defeating if they then wanted the other site plastered everywhere on here. The rules introduced on 18+ sites have been here since EC's creation, and the owners would have been perfectly aware that their other site would fall into that. Before the security changes it was a fairly relaxed rule when discussing that site, but the owners requested to us in Summer 08 that various aspects of the site had to be more strict, hence a complete blanket ban on all 18+ sites. The owners are perfectly aware that their company falls under that, and if anything it probably gives them more relief this way.
