Hi, I'm new to the site and I thought it was weird that you can't send private messages to other members? That seems silly. And the site doesn't even tell you that until after you have written the message and tried to send it! What if we want to have personal discussions with someone who replies to our threads?

    Thanks!

  2. You can send PMs to the staff right now and write on other people's walls.

Sending PMs to other members will require full membership, which you can apply for if you have fifty posts and have been here two weeks

I think it's also a precautionary measure to keep people's private information safe. If it weren't for the full membership requirement, I feel that there would be somewhat of an influx of troublemakers out to get some personal info from site members. I also feel that the full membership requirement would also be unappealing to the "troublemakers" since it would take time to actually get to use the private message feature, so they might move on somewhere else.

I agree it is kind of annoying that it acts like you can send the message and doesn't tell you until after you've composed it. I'll add that to the list of things to look at fixing when we upgrade, but that probably won't be a super easy fix.

This forum is first and foremost a support group. As such, it does not have the atmosphere common to most corners of the internet.

  10. Liam's right, it's a special kind of place.

It's great. There are so many mean, uptight, fake, and insecure people where i live in Vancouver, I'm just can't believe i found a place with other genuinely nice people like me!

If I may say, I fully believe that part of the reason our community is the way it is is because of the regular/full-member provision. The inability to send private messages without first establishing yourself in the community dissuades many of the people who are here for the wrong reasons from staying and ruining it. It's hard to figure out what else causes the community to be as great as it is (if you don't mind me calling it like it is ), but it probably comes down to people being appreciative of how great the community is and willing to defend its quality from those who would otherwise bring it down (trolls and the like). Plus, we on the staff are dedicated to doing our part to keep it the great community it is.

Ya, it totally makes sense to me now Gamer. Point of curiosity, the staff gets paid? Or is it volunteer? I don't see any ads on the site.

AFAIK, staff is completely comprised of dedicated volunteers.
And EC is funded by its sister site which must never be named.

The site-which-must-not-be-named is no longer owned by the company that EC is a part of, so it's not really EC's sister site anymore. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

As for whether the staff get paid, if anybody is then they're keeping it quiet and screwing me over! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

@Nazo: Wow, that's impressive. EC staff get the Predator9089 award for service to their country!

@Martin: This sister Voldemort site sounds scary. Oh and your signature just made me barf

Personally, I'd like to think that the reason everyone here is so wonderful 7 nice is because we all, at our cores, know what each other are going thru. It's a community based not only on mutual need, but respect & compassion for one another, which I think is why this is just about the most understanding place one can find qhwn going thru difficult issues such as the ones we all face.
