Default Graphic/mature content in the forum

I was wondering if it would be possible to create a section of the forum which is set aside for more graphic content? I know we already have the Anonymous section, but that's more of an advice forum, whereas sometimes I might pop into Chit-chat and see something a little crude that I would rather not see on my laptop screen (e.g. posts related to porn or mention it in the title). Could we possibly have a section that's for more mature content, so that people can choose whether or not they want to view these things, and keep sections like Chit Chat a little cleaner?

I think this would be okay. I also find it quite disturbing to see mixed posts at the Chit Chat section (life, mature and nonsense all together).

A more strict moderation can help, but I don't know. It's just my personal opinion.

This has been discussed numerous times, and the position the EC staff has always taken is that we are a support community and, as such, graphic content, whether depicting porn or violence, or anything else, isn't appropriate to this community. Additionally, to create a section only accessible to members of a certain age would create "classes" of membership at EC which the staff has always avoided wanting to do, and raises the additional complication of figuring out a way to verify age.

Given those issues, and the fact that there are so many other places where such content is available, I would be *very* surprised if the EC board or staff would ever sees reason to reconsider the policies we have in place since.

Now, if you're talking about text-based graphic content (i.e., explicit discussions about sexual practices or something)... give us some examples of the sorts of threads you're concerned about, and it's something we can definitely look at.

The sort of things I mean are like these:

This might be inappropriate
damn, i gotta get out of here. my father almost caught me looking at gay porn

I understand they don't talk explicitly about sexual acts etc. , however it's not something I really want to have to see on my screen when I enter Chit Chat. I get what you mean about membership 'classes' etc though.

Maybe a system where we can choose to hide certain threads if we want to?

Maybe just a separate forum, not age restricted, but just another category. Then it would still be there for everyone, but you could choose whether you wanted to look at it or not?

No age stuff, no new member groups.. Just my opinion

OK, I see what you're saying. We will likely do some reconfiguring of the forums when we upgrade to VB4 so the staff can consider that at that point (which will hopefully be fairly soon.)

We really don't have a choice. They are getting ready to end-of-life vB3 and there is some functionality that we want to integrate. I run another forum of similar size that did a conversion to vB4 about a year ago and we've had no problems.

EC has a lot of vB specific technical expertise on staff between Corny and two of our board members who maintain an enormous vB community, and the vB4 test site for EC has been up for 6 months now, so we don't anticipate any problems.

A separate forum sounds like an awesome idea, suninthesky!

It's totally fine to ask sexual questions, if that's what you're asking, as long as they're not too graphic. Support and Advice, Health and Wellbeing, and Anonymous all get a fair number of questions about sex.

I'd go so far as to say that graphic is OK, even... we've had some very frank and explicit discussions on sex techniques, problems, preparation, ejaculation, orgasms, penis size, masturbation, and just about everything else you can think of. The key is, we're a support site, so the posts and questions should be focused on support and information ... just avoid any unnecessary embellishment or explanation that starts to make it sound like erotic fiction or anything like that
