A webcam feature in the chat would be nice probably would have to worry about what people are doing but it would be a nice feature to have for proper use only.
I'd also give a vote to this, if I might say so. ...but then again, there'd have to be constant monitering, and I doubt any mod here has the time for it.
The problem is that because we have members under 18 we are legally obliged to log everything, which would all video and audio through webcams. Checking that would be a major job, and even if we didn't check any of it, just storing it all for a year would be a big problem. Then there would be the server load of streaming the outputs of possibly several webcams to everyone in the chatroom. It's a lot bigger issue than a one-to-one webcam link on MSN or whatever. The cost of the bandwidth alone would be significant. Also, FlashChat doesn't support webcams. So sorry but it isn't going to happen. If you want to use webcams the best thing to do would be to set up an MSN (or whatever) chat with just those people you specifically invite.
Apart from being unsupported by the software, audio would actually be MORE difficulty to moderate. Video can be played back at a higher speed (maybe 5-10 times normal speed) to spot any areas that need checking, whereas audio would have to be played at normal speed or only a bit faster to be intelligible.
