I was wondering... I seem to recall there used to be a setting where you could specify whether by default you wanted a read receipt for all your PMs. Was I imagining that setting? Because lately all the PMs I send are by default set to ask for a read receipt when I don't want one and I can't really remember for sure whether this was always the case or if I'm just remembering things wrong.

Well I don't mind it enough to call it annoying but I would like to have the ability to just default to not asking for a read receipt. Of course, it's totally possible I was imagining the fact that we previously had that ability--maybe I just used to be a lot more careful when sending PMs. Either that or I'm confusing EC with some other forum I visit.

It's when you send someone a PM and then the forum tells you (later on) whether they've clicked on it to open it or not. It's not really a "read" receipt because no software can automatically tell if the recipient has actually READ the contents, just that they've clicked this link or that link.

Right now it appears that whenever someone sends a PM, the option to have a read receipt for that PM is set to on.

It allows you to see whether a person has read your PM or not. It's handy for peeps who do not reply back to you but you want to know that they have read your PM.

The default used to be that you needed to tick a box to request one, but now the default is the box being ticked automatically. It's helpful for when you're sending important PM's and forget to request one. I am not sure there is a way you can set which one is your default setting, but it would be handy for those who don't need to send request receipts but forget to untick the box anyway.

Oh... so I wasn't crazy--something has changed! Well, that's good to know, at least.

I don't seem to have this option, I have never recieved a read receipt or see an option box to tick or not. Maybe I am just being a computer dunce... wouldn't be the first time

If you haven't been asked to confirm a read receipt then the box will have been unticked when a PM was sent to you. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I will see if I can make it default to ticked for mods and admins and default to unticked for everyone else. It won't be immediate though as I'm away for most of this weekend.

Thanks for confirming that Joey. That's how it was supposed to be but I obviously only saw it as ticked which is the default for mods and admins.
