Okay so one thing I've noticed (probably obvious) is that the Gay community is mad for Lady Gaga. (And put in bad joke, gaga for gaga).

Anyway, I'm not personally a fan of her music, not that it's bad, it just doesn't interest me in any way. And I'm honestly trying to figure out what it is about her that causes her to be such a gay icon.

I understand that she is a massive supporter for LGBT rights, and while that is a bery good reason to respect her (and I do), I still don't see what it is that causes everyone to love her music. So yeah......what's that about?

I personally like her music, but you got a point, and I don't know the answer to it.

You say "gay community" and "everyone" as if you've met everyone who identifies as LGBT, or as if they're one monolithic entity, when they're not. I think the stereotypical gay male diva worship might play a part here, but that's so far out of my comfort zone I couldn't give you a more precise answer.

I'm not sure what it is about her either. I've started to like her music more recently than I did before, but I still wouldn't go so far as to say she was a "gay icon" from my point of view.

I personally happen to like her music, however i don't think that it has anything to do with the Rainbow community. I think that it's to each his own. I do think that a lot of the LGBTQ community has liked her more ever since her song 'Born This Way' was released.

Pretty sure the reason she's popular is just because people like her music. She has greater prevalence in the gay community because of her activism, which results in us being more exposed to her.

There isn't some conspiracy or psychological game going on.

It's 100% image. The music off of her first two albums as Lady Gaga was very simple, straightforward synth pop. She never would have gotten as famous as she did if it weren't for her ridiculous outfits and all that jazz.

I would guess she became a gay icon because of that image, because it created the illusion that she was "being herself" and not caring what other people think of her. (Whereas I would argue it was 100% calculated to bring more attention to herself.) And obviously that's something a lot of us are struggling with.

What people seem to forget is that the LGBT activism came AFTER she developed a large gay following. So that's absolutely not the reason she became a gay icon.

I loved her (and ABBA) way before I suspected I was gay. I think she's wonderfull.

  11. She's a great singer. I like the Fame Monster album the most. I think a lot of people like her music because of the catchy rhythm in most of her music. She's very well known for her LGBT activism so that's why most of us know her well. Kinda sad how she's stuck in a rut now.

  12. Haven't heard of her in awhile now.

    ---------- Post added 6th Jul 2013 at 07:33 AM ----------

i for one, preferred her prominent roman nose as opposed to this generic hollywood one. i'm sure most would agree.

She's popular because of how she resonates with fans.

Lady Gaga stands for the "outside looking in" crowd, and many LGBT teens feel as though that's them. She does have some good songs, so that obviously influences it, but she speaks to thousands through her music and LGBT activism which clearly enamours teens. Of course, not all of her fans are LGBT, as she is very much talented, but the medium through which she shows her support is the most popular with teens.
