I don't usually share what I write, but I was really proud of this one and I wanted to know what people thought. So here it is:

Eight Day Man, or Requiem for a Zeta

    Eight-day man ain't got a plan
Broke and living on the street
Found some snow in the desert heat and
Sold it cause a man's gotta eat
Made more money than he'd ever seen
Right around then brown eyes turned green

    Carved a Z into a tree
    And into the people's minds
    And into a policeman's chest
It was all for the best, he said
He was good to the rest, he said
    But the cops disagreed
It was all for his greed, they said
Law's what you need, they said

Friends with no god 'cept the god of this world
Even the god of this world was scared
    Hired guns kept the peace
And the peace kept the war
And the war kept making money
but it wasn't about money, no
    It wasn't about money anymore

What God forgets this world remembers
    As September slips into December
And the lights turn off each night
When a life is mourned and a death is praised
When a savior still has to be raised
And the people longing to be saved
Have only hope and nothing more
Are abandoned at the church's door

And they'll look for any open door
And they'll pray to any welcome lord
Be it heaven or hell or snow
Gods may die but people grow
    But only eight days old

I liked the line: "Found some snow in the desert heat" I thought that was very clever :Þ
