I want to have a bag that I can throw all my stuff in (cell phone, wallet, brush, pocket mirror, notes, perfume...) and that looks good on me. I want something that matches well a student's casual wear, that's not too formal, and that doesn't look girly. After a quick research I found out about newsboy bags. They are pretty stylish and close to what I am looking for. But they seem a little too big/bloated. Do you have any suggestions? I want something that I can wear when I am out with friends or on informal dates.

They are not bad, but they are a bit too extraverted for me. I prefer subtle colours and no evident brand names on my clothes. And I think I'd rather have one made of canvas or something similar.

Still, is your bag practical? What do you use it for?

Very much the same things that you have said "you would put in, sometimes if I take it with me on holiday, then I would stick a few holiday nick knacks in, it would also be good to carry student books in

And is it useful for heavy loads? I have never used one shoulder bags, and many of my friends complain that they tire your shoulder if you carry them around for too long and with a lot of things inside. For example, at university we sometimes have to bring along several notebooks and other things. Will such a bag be comfortable? My friends tend to be a little grumpy, so their opinion is kind of biased.

They're very easy to make if you can sew, or have a friend who can be persuaded to help. Then you could pick your own fabrics (much cheaper), decide if you want inside pockets (and where/how many/how big), and decide on the size and strap length you want.

If you put the strap over your head, rather than directly on your shoulder, it shouldn't be too heavy
