He's now 92 and still playing week in week out.

And yes, the guitar's named after him. The Gibson SG was, too, originally, but he didn't like it. Also, he invented the repeater with the Les Pulveriser, and pretty much invented multi-tracking on record.

The SG was actually originally a modified Les Paul.

Since the guy invented solid body guitars, you could argue that he had more influence in the strat than anyone else.

The guy pretty much invented the tools for modern music. Solid body guitars, overdubbing, the repeater, and various other little bits and bobs.

God - I didn't even realise he was still alive.

That was an awesome vid to watch. It must be kind of nice to get to the stage where you are recognised as an 'institution'.

In that respect, he reminds me of Victor Borge - who was still performing (and brilliant) into his 90's...but I guess no-one here is likely to know who Victor Borge actually was.

If you are interested...Google him and look on You Tube. He was a musical and comedic genius.

Of course I know Victor Borge !! And I remember when Les Paul and Mary Ford were on the hit parade.
And I used to ride a horse to school and fight off the grizzly bears on the way.

Meh. In my opinion, I'd have to say "Go BC-Rich Mockingbird Special Edition:EvilEdge (with replaced pickups)". This post is really more about the man.

    And Strats bore me.

    Wow that's so nice.
Although, I don't use electric guitars much.
And when I do, it's a Blue Fender Stratocaster named Ryan, and he's my baby.

Don't really know intricacy behind models though, lol.

I prefer the BC Rich Warlock but I've never really been a fan of BC Rich, way too pointy, unplayable and uncomfortable. And yeah the pickups >.< eww

Pickups, definite eww. Bit too pointy, yeessss, but the warlock's the worst for it. Mockingbird is quite smooth, actually. Unplayable... true. But then again, so's my Stagg, I bought that because it was pretty. Replace the pickups, and if you're a true shredder, use WD40 on the frets. It's what Paul Gilbert does, and he knows best.

Well I'll always be a Steve Vai fan
But JEMs are useless at playing anything other than his [style of] music...
Last week my dad washed my signed shirt when I met him in Paris  gaaaaahhhhhhhrrrrgrhghrhrgh !!!!!!
