Is there a connection? It seems there's a higher correlation of transgendered members on EC who sport MLP avatars and user pictures, but this could be result of confirmation bias (I naturally pay more attention and identify with trans members).

Either way, I'm curious if there is some type of identification with the show among EC transgenders. Yes, I'm bored, and yes, this has been a random thought on my mind today...

Feel free to correct me if my theory is completely misplaced, of course.

I don't know.. I remember MLP coming out and I said "I might or might not watch it" due to how busy I was.

What I did like though was the boom of bronies. The whole mentality of "Sure I have a penis but I can like a show made for girls if I like it" seriously reflected on me earlier when I was watching the show "Powerpuff Girls" made by the same people.

I know Purplerain uses Fluttershy because she strongly relates to Fluttershy due to her shyness and hope for everyone to do well. I don't know about Pret Allez. Or anyone else for that matter.

I've got a Doctor Whooves shirt on because I'm a huge Doctor Who fan and I'm somewhat of a brony. Although I've thought of having Derpy as an avatar.

I relate to Rainbow Dash most because she's a jock, and to my mind, kind of warrior-like... Also rainbows...

I absolutely can't stand the show. The bright, cheerful colors make me want to throw up a kidney.

I was about to mention it seemed more common with the transwomen than with transmen, but meh.

Just mentioned this a few minutes ago. I think there has to be some connection.

I haven't ever used any MLP avatars as it's not a HUGE interest of mine, but I have watched all the episodes and like the show. I suppose it was a way of expressing a girlier side to myself without the suspicion that would come from watching anything else that is perceived as so decidedly female. It's an enjoyable show and funny. Loads of people are into it, including a ton of guys. Plus, watching it makes me feel really nostalgic. It's like a link to a childhood I never had and I suppose it's because of that I watch it. It creates a feeling for me nothing else can in the way that I enjoy it, but it also makes me kind of sad. It's difficult to convey, but I can understand why a lot of trans girls have seen it.

I am transgender, and I think that we like to watch it, just because it gives us the feeling of acceptance, a feeling of nothing matters, just be you.

  15. I have never watched the show... ever.. Maybe one day.

I'll honestly be forever grateful for the brony movement. By saying "Oh, I'm a brony" it opened the gateway for me to buy girl toys, wear cute T-shirts, and not have to hide the fact that I was watching a feminine show. I was finally allowed to live some of the childhood I was denied and craved so much. Sure there was the major backlash over it by bigots; but it is so much easier to take the heat of enjoying something feminine when you have an army of gender defying guys watching your back. IMHO I think a lot of us identify with MLP:FIM as a means of putting our foot out of the closet door without having as much fear of it being slammed off.

I personally consider myself an overall gender-neutral and cannot stand MLP honestly.

To be honest, I have a bit of an attitude towards the brony side of the fan base. I mean, ok, fine, you watch the show. Yes, I might tease you for it, but at the end of the day we all have cartoons we love. Me? I'll watch the shit out of the old batman cartoons.

However, I draw the line at those bronies that feel the need to shove their fandom in my face and are obnoxious about it. Not all are like that, I know, but..Gah. I stay away from it.
