I've never actually heard anyone talk about "soul music" as a genre, but if I had to guess, I'd say it's similar to soul food XD. Basically inspired by slave spirituals and blues music, and maybe incorporating some upbeat gospel and funk. If somebody were to say soul music, I'd think of Motown. Soul music, is music which makes you feel the song, in a deeper level, I think.. for example Gospel music and blues. Have you heard of James Brown??
