Hey, there are some stars, when 30-something and 40-something, who hit it big in comedy and were cast as goofy or nerdy types. Steve Carell has been cast like this, but some people (mostly women I've heard talk) think he's sort of hot. As for Chevy Chase, I've never heard of anyone refer to him as being attractive when he was younger and at his peak. I thought he was hot - great dimpled chin. Just going to chime in here, Steve Carell, when he grows out his beard, he looks, just... wow. I don't go for older guys at all, but damn. Tres tres sexy.

Steve Carell with his beard is, well, wow, and I don't even go for men. In general, though, I don't like it when they cast an actor unsuited to a nerdy part. You have to have a certain charisma to pull off something geeky...
I dont' necessarily think they're hot, but I do love humor, and Steve Carell is incredibly funny. so Steve, yes.
