"There is no such thing as old music or new music. Only good music and bad music "-Peter Warlock probably. Every genre has its share of good music. Only recently did I realise I have only been listening to a fraction of all possible genres. For example psychobilly, never heard of it before last week and now I am addicted. It makes me wonder what else I'm missing musically, so if you know any obscure songs or genres that you really like, please tell me!
My stepdad is in a psychobilly punk band but as for weird music genres... my friends think my music is weird. It's not really though
I'm mostly into Steampunk music. These are two of the best.
I like a lot of random world music genres. Shamisen (Japanese "banjo") Erhu (Chinese instrument related to the shamisen) "Horse racing" by virtuoso Ma Xiaohui NPR Media Player Mongolian folk music (including throat singing)
Love from Scotland. x (it's just a gimmick/aesthetic tho) As Timo's said, Witch House is awesome. And it actually has musical characteristics rather than being purely an aesthetic. Vaguely related to Crystal Castles. Here's more: (I heard this on the UK's main daytime radio station on the school bus once. I know BBC radio tends to be pleasingly diverse compared to other radio stations but this really freaked everyone out. True story) The last half of this is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard and everyone should hear 4.05 to 4.48 before they die. OH and they often have ridiculous artist names like 'Christian AIDS', the aforementioned '†‡†', 'fromrussiawithaids', '\\\^◊^///' and '▼▲▼vagina vangi'. Yep.
The whole Hardcore scene is pretty mind blowing. My Favorite band of all times, of Machines. Or maybe these guys (Dance Gavin Dance), I frigging love them. Saosin was the only other one I could think of that has a peculiar sound. These are just a couple of my favorite, but there's really so much more it's insane. I think it's worth checking out.
Some people say shoegaze/nugaze is a bit weird, but it's basically just indie/alternative rock with a synthesizer. I love it! My two favorite nugaze bands are M83 and Working for a Nuclear Free City. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avk5YDc1dsk&feature=share&list=PLtT4r0BsIuVs7Xsav6wNnbUZNxiiXDuH0 http://youtu.be/gd5rD3w5B3k
Oh yes, this definitely adds to the awesome. Yesterday I downloaded some stuff by a band called '✝ DE△D VIRGIN ✝'. Haven't listened to more than one song yet but I already like it.
Incredible, simply incredible. Honestly, I was expecting a lot of garbage with a few gems hidden inside, but instead, what you, all of you, have shown me is a world far grander than I could have hoped to imagine.
Math rock Post rock Neo prog But the best for me is always...unclassificable/genreless/Rich fusion of genres, stuff that cannot be described with just a label....example Battles 65days of static Yasser tejeda y palotré
