I'm usually into more dark, serious, and philosophical media, but my favorite video game is probably Disgaea, which is about as far from those things as you can get (for the most part, at least).

I don't usually listen to contemporary music, but I really liked Arcade Fire when I saw them on Austin City Limits around 2007. They had an interesting mix of folk and other genres and, IMO, an original sound. It seems at least some of the instrumentalists had classical training. I was very happy when they won Album of the Year at the Grammys in 2011.
I'm usually extremely picky about my games, but I love seeing cheap prices on them. They instantly become amazing looking games, even when they're mediocre.
