I love rock especially 'hair metal'.

I hat rap and techno the pounding bass just drives me insane. Give me a guitar screaming for mercy any day.

I love metal, most sub genres of it.
I hate music that has no soul, it's just blah.

It's hard to decide a favorite, but I'm going to go with metal just because it's the most represented genre on my iPod.

Least favorite would have to be brostep (a.k.a. American dubstep). Just about every other genre that I generally dislike, I have found at least one song from that I do like. Brostep grates on me without fail. White-guy-with-acoustic-guitar music (bland songs composed of nothing but simple guitar chords played on an acoustic guitar with no other or minimal accompaniment and self-satisfied or insincere lyrics, e.g. "I'm Yours" or "I Won't Give Up" by Jason Mraz or "Daughters" by John Mayer) is a close second.

Ambient that is truly, absolutely ambient. Such as Ambient Drone. Long drawn out, ever evolving tones, creating the most mellow atmospheres.
EG...
"13/4 & Phasing" by Luke Cowan

2 tempo tracks. Tracks that play-out both at one BPM and double speed to create complex layers of drum patterns yet they feel spacious and uncluttered.
EG: "Reflection" by Synkro & Indigo

Classic 90's trance.
EG: "Synaesthesia" by The Thrillseekers

Cross-genre.
EG: Glitch, ambient, classical orchestra.
EG: BT "The Antikythera Mechanism"

Video Game Music.
EG: Sonic & Knuckles Lava Reef Zone Act 1 Theme

Examples of damn fine electronic music!

I totally agree with you on that. I hate boring music. I want to listen to music, not someone singing about their boring life.

I don't like a specific genre, but I do like music that is good.
I also listen to a lot of mashups.

Classic rock ca. 1970-1990. More towards the first decade of that stretch, but I wanted to include Guns N' Roses and they were pretty late period as far as the golden age of rock is concerned.

But other names in the time frame are:

The Police
The Who
The Eagles
Bob Dylan
AC/DC
Led Zeppelin
Aerosmith
Boston
Journey
Grand Funk Railroad
Bon Jovi
Def Leppard
(probably a whole lot of others I can't think of atm)

And every single one of them have made at least one immortal song if not dozens. Compared to then, today's music blo-hooowwwssss.

I like so much music, from bluegrass to punk, to baroque. However, based on my favorite songs I would say romantic (think Beethoven or Tchaikovsky).
I don't really dislike anything (music or other forms of art) but I must say, music without a melody (rap, dubstep, etc.) really confuses me. If you can't hum it is it really music or is it just a sound?

I couldn't even try to name an single one. This is about the best I can do.

Favorites: surf rock, sludge metal, noise rock, east European folk music (klezmer, bulgar, etc.), hard bop/free jazz, and romantic classical music.

Least favorites: hip hop, country, and anything with a harpsichord in it. Though there's good music in all of these categories - I just have a harder time finding it there.

The most represented genre on my iPod is Alternative-Pop, like CHVRCHES, Lily Allen, and Ingrid Michaelson's new album, which has better songs like "I'm Through."

I have songs representing nearly every genre except for heavy metal and the like.

Random artists/bands I have include Phildel, Walk the Moon, The Cranberries, Daughter, Ellie Goulding, Foster the People, Florence and the Machine, Passion Pit, and A Silent Film.

I've been listening to a lot of pop punk like The Academy Is and Taking Back Sunday recently, so that's my favorite genre right now. I go through musical phases where I'm really into a certain kind of music, and then I discover a new type of music, and I really get into that. I also like rap music (Beastie Boys, Wiz Khalifa, Mac Miller), Classic Rock (Jeff Beck Group, Stray Cats, Beatles) and pop music (Bruno Mars, Ricky Nelson, Justin Timberlake). Just about the only genre that I don't really like is dubstep. All of my friends are obsessed with it.I don't really understand why it's so popular. The music has no soul or emotions to it, just clicks and beeps.

I like anything, almost. Mostly. I suppose. But man, I just really love Fall Out Boy. Not only do they write great songs, but their music saved my life. *happy sniffle*
I don't like anything that I can deem trashy or degrading (so this pertains more to individual songs), and I just really can't stand straight-up dubstep, country, or polka.

I like punk, indie rock/pop, cowpunk, alt-country, rockabilly, techno, and many more.

Now bands/artists i like are wilco, stray cats, x, the ramones, dj raaban, the pains of being pure at heart, delta spirit, the heartless bastards, to name a few.

Stuff i don't like is rap and "new" country i just can't listen to it.

Jazz. Just... Jazz. Maximo Spodek is my favorite arranger/performer. He's just too amazing.

I don't like rap. At all. Most of the songs sound the same, and I never understand what the rapper is trying to say/is saying. They just sound incredibly dull and unoriginal to me.

I agree with you on country, but I disagree with you on dubstep and polka. Even though dubstep isn't my favorite genre I'm kind of happy dubstep is popular because I'm sick of all this mellow generic "indie rock". I occasionally listen to polka music to have fun and forget about my problems.
