Are you listening to music right now? What's playing? If not, pull up iTunes or something, hit shuffle, and say what comes up.

What's on now has a bit of a story to it, so I'll tell it.

In 1983, when I was 13, MTV began airing the video for "Rockit", a song by Herbie Hancock.

The song and video totally blew my mind. I'd watch MTV just to try to see this video again. When my birthday came up, I told my parents that I wanted the album it was on - Future Shock. They got me that, PLUS another one by him.

After playing Future Shock to death, I finally put this one on. And was confused. Because it was jazz. Not jazz-y. Jazz. As in pianos, sax, bass and drums. No weird scratching or drum machines or funk. Just jazz.

But I listened to it. And I decided I kinda liked it. So I kept looking for more Herbie Hancock albums. And soon, I was listening to a bunch of different jazz artists.

I just came across my copy of Hancock Alley. And I'm listening to it - on scratchy vinyl - remembering my introduction to jazz. This track isn't on there, but it's one of his classics.

Many of you might know this different rendition, though.

...so what are you listening to?

Well, sorry, gotta interrupt with my indie music!
First Metric's The Police and the Private came on:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=-v22DD4pas4
They are so good, by far my favourite band. I'm still trying to understand everything about the lyrics, cause they're so good, but a bit confusing to decipher. Probably my favourite song by them.
And then halfway while posting this, another favourite came on. Untouchable Face by Ani Difranco:

"You look like a photograph of yourself, taken from far far away."

Butterfly Boucher - Another White Dash

I totally just discovered this artist's album. The song 'Life Is Short' was featured on Grey's Anatomy in it's first season, and I just randomly got it stuck in my head, so now I downloaded the entire album and I love it. ;D

"The Sky is Crying"-Stevie Ray Vaughn (RIP), one of the greatest blues guitarists of all time. Despite all the changes my musical preference has gone through, he remains a constant.

^ Turn up the volume at the very end of that song. There's a rather surprising lyric just as it fades out.

Now playing...well, John Cage's 4' 33", I guess
