I feel guilty about wanting to see Ender's Game

I absolutely despise Orson Scott Card for his public support of homophobia. However, he happens to be a talented writer, and the two Ender's Game series were my introduction to sci fi as a genre (which is a major part of my life today) and I was a huge fan as a high school student. The movie looks like it will be a brilliant adaption, and I would normally be very excited to see it...if the thought of supporting Orson Scott Card even in a small way didn't make me feel nauseous. Does anyone else feel this way?

I can actually understand what you are driving at. My best option would be to try as best you can to divorce his opinions from his talent. I dn't know how easy that is but you can give it a shot perhaps

The tactic I'd use in this sort of situation is to wait for the movie to come out on DVD, and then appear at my local library. That way, I can watch the movie and not directly support someone with offensive views.

Of course, for this strategy to work, one does have to have a library that carries DVDs.

The best way to get back at him is to write some really raunchy Ender's Game gay slash fiction. He hates fanfic as much as he hates homosexuality, so it's a double-whammy.

I guess I'm pretty lucky to have found Ender's game to be as dull as its author...

On the topic of guilt though, I want chick-fil-a.

Good idea! Or buy it second-hand on DVD from Ebay.

agreed, that way if anything its giving him the finger rather than support. im having the exact same dilemma. id never even heard of the series till the nostalgia chick said about the same dilemma reading the books (film wasnt announced then). she said that the series is like the lord of the rings of sci fi with enders game as the hobbit, which really made me want to read it until she revealed he is a homophobic :***:hole. now whenever i see the trailer all i see is something that pisses me off, and makes me wander if the actors know about the authors views.

It's funny. I bought the book for 25 cents at a market. I had no idea the author was homophobic so now I have no intention of reading it.

Bonus: the price should be lower--possibly a lot lower--than new. A former roommate always waited after a DVD release. The DVD would be hot a short time, prices high, then used prices would start dropping. If you wait long enough, some hot titles might be so common you can pick them up off Amazon for less than a dollar plus shipping.
