Katy Perry - Unconditionally (Lyric Video) - YouTube So Katy Perry just released this lyric video with Erika Linder and some other woman. While I'd like to think she was representing LGBT people by having two lesbians in a video...I'm am wondering what she was trying to convey here. Was the woman saying: "I love you no matter what people say?" "I Love you even though you arent a man" "I love you although you are trans?" "I love you although you may have been hurt by others. I accept you." I am wondering. I think the lyrics are beautiful but what is she trying to say? Whats your opinion?
To me, the girl on the left seemed to be struggling. She seemed, through her closed-off body language, and damaged facial expression, and her silence, to have endured quite a bit of persecution, whether from others or herself. I think The girl on the right was expressing a lack of judgment, open acceptance, and I think she was encouraging the person she loves to be true to herself without worrying about what other people thought. It seemed to be about passion, honesty (symbolic nudity and all), and solidarity.
I thought the video was beautiful. Erika (the short haired one) did a great job of looking hurt and tortured.
I just watched the video and was about to post a thread about it but did a quick search to see if it was already posted It's amazing how lesbians are being promoted for equality as well and not just gays. *Applause for Katy*
It is interesting. Either way, I'm happy this thread introduced me to this song. I feel as though Kate Perry's most annoying songs tend to be the ones that do unreasonable well.
Because people seem to think gay men are a more legitimate couple than lesbians are so this is nice to see
there seems to be a lot of backlash over the new video vs. the lyric video. The lyric video was a really great video that took the lyrics to heart. But the new video is the really stylized, and somewhat philosophical take on unconditional love (the director states all of these different points in the video as points of unconditional love). I personally like both, but the lyric video really gets the message across.
It was an okay music video, the new one, I was disappointed till the end, because I hadn't seen a gay or lesbian couples, but saw heterosexual couples and interracial couples and a mother an child, however at the end there were two men dancing together. So....I'm satisfied that she showed all facets of unconditional love. I'm still biased and like the lyric video more, but thats just the lesbian in me.
