Just read that Lou Reed has died at the age of 71. :icon_sad: RIP Velvet Underground-"Pale Blue Eyes" from "The Velvet Underground" LP - YouTube
Just saw this and was very sad. Growing up, things like Lou Reed, The Velvet Underground, Andy Warhol, David Bowie and the like were these signs that tolerant, bisexual and gay people existed in this mythical place, called New York. He sang about them. To a kid in northern Michigan, in the early-mid 1980s, this was huge. There was no internet, no support groups, nothing but suggestion, images, symbols. I feel sad for his wife, Laurie Anderson, whom I also really love, nice pic of them, probably late 1990s:
An inspiration for all the freaks and weirdos who don't fit into conventional societies narrow prescription of how you should live your life.
All the cool people are dying :tears: I love The Velvet Underground, I think his best music was with them. Maybe it's because it was weird and a bit experimental for the time.
I remember him mostly for "Walk on the Wild Side" and its lyrics, which were ahead of their time, so to speak. RIP.
Even though his musical productivity has slowed down in the last few decades, I feel like it will be a slightly less badass world without him.
Discovering The Velvet Underground and Nico was a watershed moment for me in appreciating what music can be and how it can make you feel. A personal hero of mine and I'm sad that he's gone.
