When people ask me who my favorite comedians are, I never say Carlin. To me, it's just common sense. Everybody should love Carlin. There has yet to be a comedian who can switch from so funny you're about to pee yourself, to provoking thoughts comparable to those of great philosophers.
I like George Carlin, but not so much as a comedian. He's a philosopher who says things that need to be said, yet does it in a funny way. And I'm glad that he has such a big fanbase. The one thing I remember most from his routines is talking about people who say they're "proud to be x-nationality." I'm as patriotic as can be, and yet I totally agree with him that it makes NO sense to say I'm proud to be American. I had nothing to do with it.
