I know this is stereotypical, but i'm just running tests.

this thread is for guys (not straight) only... i wan't to see the polls for these pop chicks (how else do i word it?) popularity. so pick one you think your ears couldn't do without. choose no, no! none of this crap! if there's nothing for you listed [personally i think that brakes the stereotype]

There are a few more and this could be generational. There is definitely a link, I think. I was once talking to a Latino gay guy before and he said that he adored Carly Simon. Ok. Interesting. I think that Streisand and Bette Midler are also gay pop divas. For all of them, their music is not much better nor much worse than that of other mainstream artists.

Dance music also cranked out its share of gay pop divas. Some gay men are really into them. And then, other gay men and some straight men just like them, because they represented the music of an era. If a gay guy likes Tina Turner to the point of dressing to look like her, and generally imitate her, I'd say there's a link, all right. But Tina Turner rocks, and in a big way.

    None of this bubblegum pop!
We will not have any of this in the court!
    I object!
Ahem. If pop is popular music, then wouldn't it have elements from other genres?
I don't think I said (i.e. typed) that too well.

I dislike all of the ones you listed, but I do like Marina & the Diamonds, Charli XCX and Katy B. Oh, and Lily Allen. She stills rules the whole female pop thing.

Kate Bush isn't on the list. :frowning2:

But instead, it'd have to be Beyoncé (post-2010 and especially this year).

    Followed by these babes:

(I'll stop now. I've just realised how there've actually been quite a few sublime females recently)

(and it feels really weird using the word 'babe')

Last one I swear. HOW DID I FORGET THIS. This is posted for anyone who's forgotten about them or got put off by the rest of the album being ridiculously boring.

I keep forgetting SO MANY ARTISTS that would perfectly fit here. Time for some musical education, starting with Santigold (who's still called Santogold in my iTunes cause I'm cool like that).

To gay it up... OH YES, Yelle.

...and back to 2004, Annie. PERFECT POP SONG?

I don't understand the attraction some (gay) men have of divas. Sure, some of those on the list are talented, but I wouldn't worship them by giving them the title of "diva." It's cool that some (many?) on this list may advocate for LGBT rights, but that doesn't mean I'll like their music. Perhaps for me is the issue that I don't really listen to pop and care about these women.

Taylor Swift is the only one whose music I've heard often, but that's what happens when you have a 13-year-old sister.

I like all of them except Cher and Madonna... sorry (but I think Beyonce deserves a ton of praise... she is about the only artist who gives 101% of her energy on stage)

Lorde is alright, but she has a big mouth (both literally and figuratively)

I like some of the music by some of the artists mentioned, but I don't think it's because I'm gay.

Of the ones you've listed, Britney Spears is definitely my favorite, I still regularly listen to songs from all of her albums. I love Britney, and the fact that she's been basically discarded by mainstream society these days only makes me love her more. Queers are by definition not 'mainstream society'.

I think gay guys are supposed to relate to these 'divas' because they get hated on so much and go through so many personal struggles despite their overall fabulousness, mirroring the gay male experience.

The mutual fabulousness :newcolor: in itself of course endears gay men to divas (or divae, to be proper :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:).

The only traditional 'pop diva' I truly adore is Dame Shirley Bassey. This song is like my personal anthem, I love her so much:

At first I read this as 'Pope Diva'. I need glasses.

But for me, my mate, and other gays I know, that would be the great Lady Day, Miss Billie Holiday. I still think she was the greatest jazz vocal-stylist, and will always hold her music dear.

Of those listed, I do like Adele, especially her early stuff, such as Right as Rain, Chasing Pavements, and such...

I've listened to all these artists one time or another, but Lana Del Rey is my favorite. Some folks are put off by her voice, as it sounds soulless and hollow. I don't feel that way. To me, her voice sounds unique compared to other artists out there. That's what intrigues me the most about her.

I say Beyonce, although I do sometimes worry about the affect her voice has on people(esp. small children, see youtube) could result in Pied Piper/Children of the Corn scenario if she so chose.
