So my cell phone broke and I'm thinking about getting an iPhone - one of those new ones coming out in a few days. I was just wondering, what is it that the data plan lets you do? Is it necessary to have it to get the iPhone? I'd get it anyway, but I'm just wondering... I like to know what I'm spending my money on.
Well, the data plan lets you get on the Internet from anywhere (that has cell service) when you can connet to Wi-Fi. Basically, it lets you do everything the iPhone can do with the Internet: Safari (web browsing), e-mail, YouTube, get weather, download iTunes music, etc etc. The data plan is just a connection to the net and yes, you are required to get it if you get the iPhone -- which is understandable, since an iPhone without it would be less useful.
