The show's just began, and already they have had a snowflake not turn into a ring.

Although, I have to say, I was quite impressed by the little girl acrobat that was flying through all of the scenes. That was pretty cool.

What have your thoughts been so far?

(And please, I know that Russia is homophobic, but by not watching it, it would hurt the broadcasters, and the people that are producing the show, not Russia. I'm not going to hurt the people that are working hard, and putting themselves in danger because of the country that they are broadcasting from's decisions. I don't need to be lectured about my decision, so if you are coming to this thread to do that, I would ask kindly that you do not.)

I'm watching. It's too bad that the last ring didn't open up, reminds me a lot of that one pillar of the torch that didn't rise out of the ground in Vancouver.

I love just about everything about the Olympics so I'm going to enjoy this no matter what, but so far it doesn't compare to Vancouver or London for me. Very early though, and that's probably understandable considering the cultural difference is much bigger with Russia.

Greece just came in, and they were wearing rainbow gloves

I guess with shows these complicated, there are bound to be a few glitches. There's always something that can go wrong..

My only qualms so far have been that NBC's audio guy needs to hike up the volume on the broadcasters' mics. It's obvious that they're consitently letting the background noise drain out the reporters, which should not be happening in any broadcast.

Yeah, that is annoying. It seems to have gotten a little bit better after this last commercial break. Depending on where they are located, some of that noise could be coming directly from their mics. So, they may have put a stronger audio filter on their mics. I did have my tv up so loud I was worried about getting a noise violation..

Huh, that's weird. It sounds fine on my TV now.

On a completely different note, Germany's uniforms were awesome, even though they were not supposed to be a protest to the LGBT law.

Maybe. But I'd bet they're using either cardioid or hypercardioid mics. I do agree though, it's gotten a lot better since commercial break. But the thing is, when you're working the audio board for broadcast and you can't hear the talent, you need to turn the talent up during the broadcast instead of during or after commercial.

I'm surprised that Canada got such a loud, supportive reception. I kind of expected quiet because of the hockey rivalry.

That would be my guess too. (I really hope that they are not using an omnidirectional mic.. that would be really stupid.)

Without being there, we cannot not know if there was some sort of technical issue that caused it. So, turning it up my not have fully fixed the problem.. or worse yet, it could've cause complete loss or just distortion..

This Cyrillic alphabet thing is messing with me too.. I walked out of the room and I though I missed way more than I did.

The whole ramp coming out of the country is cool too.

This sequence with the bouncy Kremlin... Yikes, this looks like a Dr Seuss book on acid.

I love projection mapping. I really do. I heard from a student that one of his projects was the projection mapping one the school had advertised, and it was "stupid". Thing is, I'm seeing more and more of this. It's on the Cinderella castle, and I also think it's on the Aurora castle in Disneyworld. It's also been integrated in theater (I saw that in Les Mis when it was in Chicago a few years ago).

    It's really something to behold.

Yeah, it's definitely becoming more popular. It's amazing what all it can be used for. I think that this technology has a bright future.
