I'm 15 and wondering if there are any appropriate movies or TV shows about gay people or just gay themed, that are good.
I think Beautiful Thing is a wonderful film and is actually about high school kids in Britain. It's a beautiful, inspiring film. Romantic, but not entirely ungritty. I think it would be a great film for you to look up.
For the T in LBGT, I would recommend the anime Wandering Son. (Presumably the manga it's based on is also good, but I haven't read it.) It's about the lives of several kids as they enter middle school and grapple with their genders and sexualities. Not sure if it was aimed at teens or older audiences, but it works for both.
It's about a 16 year old's missteps in his attempt to come out to the world. It's a really poignant film. I cried. :tears:
Love of Siam The History Boys These are the only two LGBT films I've watched that are geared towards teens because the main characters are in their late teens. The British accents of the characters from The History Boys made understanding the dialogue a bit difficult sometimes (I am probably the only person who feels this way), but otherwise I enjoyed it. Love of Siam is also great. Since it's a Thai film where characters speak Thai, you can probably find it with subtitles.
Seriously, I would recommend The Fosters. I am 16 and it is seriously my favorite show that deals heavily with LGBT issues.
"Tomboy" is pretty good, but it's in French. I'm not sure if you'd really consider it LGBT, it's about a young girl who moves house and presents as a boy. This is unknown to the parents. It's a good movie, and I think it's on Netflix.
Another vote for The Fosters. The premise surrounds a lesbian couple raising children...It's on the ABC Family network and geared towards young adults.
I think the protagonist of the movie Shelter is a young guy/adult? There are actually quite a few LGBT movies out there with teen protagonists (i.e. But I'm a Cheerleader!) but I don't think they are specifically aimed at LGBT youth.
