Ha, this isn't really a question about making music as much as it is a question about selling it. I think those pictures are called Thumbnails , they're used to categorize all types of crap on the internet. And often include embedded links.
Making those falls under graphic design. Totally unrelated to music except where marketing is concerned, and much more computer oriented. Get some practice in with Photoshop and Illustrator if you want to get involved there.
