So I thought I get the difference and meaning of both but apparently not.
Please, can someone explain it to me? Thanks:slight_smile:

    Yaoi is malexmale content

    Yuri is femalexfemale content

Generally, in western cultures, they refer to porn without plot while shounen-ai (MxM) and shoujo-ai (FxF) is the romantic, fluffy, plot oriented content. (However, I also heard in Japan that 'yuri' is used to refer to all lesbian content regardless)

This is correct. Yaoi is gay guy anime porn. Yuri is lesbian anime porn. It depends whom you ask since to some people Yaoi and Yuri also includes tame stuff. I'll try to refrain from a rant about stereotypical yaoi xD

What's wrong with stereotypical yaoi? I love Ai no Kusabi!

If people like it; cool. They gotta remember it is nothing like most real gay relationships. Also it hits too close to home. I'm a short guy. I don't believe my height influences my preferences... some ignorant people do. Most people can separate real life from fantasy, so please know I am not picking on you. At least it's fun sometimes to surprise the guys that hit on me! And finally porn does nothing for me. It's a mystery to me why I wrote yaoi fanfiction in my teen years. Probably a morbid curiosity and a legit excuse to research the mechanics of gay sex.

I personally strongly dislike yaoi, but I DON'T hate gay male pairs in fiction. It's more or less the yaoi genre. It reminds me too much of a heterosexual pairing with how rigid the gender roles are. The sex scenes are too romanticized and corny for my liking too. And a lot of yaoi always seem to include rape culture as well. I realize this is the case for hentai too, and I don't like that either.

I really only ship "femslash" with my own characters....

I'll agree with you, actually. Shoujo-ai, in my opinion is the best. I don't really care for explicit cartoons. Then again I've seen "yuri" self titled shows be far from explicit.

Ahhh... well CharlsOn, you gotta look for yuri. I am loving Sakura Trick - gonna finish it tonight then look for the manga - but if you want a great manga, CHIRALITY! I love Urushihara's illustrations. (^_~)

Yaoi: malexmale. Yaoi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yuri: femalexfemale. Yuri - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The terms yaoi and yuri refer to more pornographic content outside of Japan, but they refer to both pornographic and non-pornographic content in Japan.

The terms shonen-ai (boy love) and shojo-ai (girl love) are used for non-pornographic content outside Japan. (I'm lazy, so I use the terms yaoi and yuri all the time. :lol:slight_smile:

All of these terms can also refer to shippings (pairings of characters that people think make a good couple), not just homosexual anime/manga.
Thiefshipping from Yu-Gi-Oh is a good example.
