I used to really like Alizee (especially moi lolita and j'en ai marre), because I like cheesy pop music in general  And pour que tu m'ames encore by celine dion. Don't really know any recent songs though...

A little outdated but I like some Jacques Brel's songs. He was a Belgian but recorded most of his songs in French.

I have the soundtrack from Le Roi Soleil, and I also listen to some Kyo and Coeur de Pirate (she might be French Canadian, though).

Yeah she's blond, that's actually the title of her new song, but it's bad. She should move on, she's not 16 anymore lol

I like "Comme d'Habitude", "Les Champs Élysées" (though that's not actually by a French artist, per se), and "Caresse sur l'Ocean" (as well as some other songs from Les Choristes).

Hmm Formidable was/is quite famous, it's not bad.
But one of my favorites is La Mer, by Charles Trennet, so classic! I like it in the English version just as much. And Milord by Edith Piaf. Both Oldies, really oldies. I also like some of Jacques Brel's songs but haven't heard them in a long time.

Oh, reading Illus's post reminded me of another song I like - "À quoi ça sert l'amour" by Edith Piaf.

Mostly, I like older French Music: Charles Trenet, Edith Piaf, Lucien Boyer.

Also, Serge Gainsbourg.

I can't say I've heard anything ne, but I'd be curious what's out there, especially on the alternative/indie side of things.

I love Yann Tiersen. I do listen to Renan Luce as well.

17. I listen to a couple of albums by Blankass. I like some of Garou's old stuff. I like Marilou in a guilty pleasure kind of way--but I know she's Canadian. I've listened to some stuff by Carla Bruni. I also, like another poster I believe said, have Le Roi Soleil soundtrack and I also have the Notre Dame de Paris soundtrack, which make me endlessly happy.

I studied French (for six years) a long time ago, so I was exposed to quite a bit of music, I just don't remember because it's been so long!

Edit: I can't believe I forgot that one MC Solaar song Victime de la Mode I think it was?

Not from other-side of the ocean but I like some French singres like, Edith Piaf, Mylene Farmer, Patricia Kaas, Roch Voisine and lately Indila joined this list.

While I only remember Oochigeas from Voisine, those ladies really define French music for me... full of emotions.

We also have our French song singing Diva, Candan Ercetin. To me she sounds wonderful but can't tell what you native French people would think.

While looking for my favorite French song of her found this video. It somehow shows how universal and connecting the music is. Music is based on Romanian traditional song (according to comment) made famous in here by a Frecnh diva, Edith Piaf with French lyrics. Sing by a Turkish lady and video has lyrics in both French and Chinese.

I hope I am not the only one who thinks this is lovely. (&&&)
