What lgbt tv shows did you guys enjoy? Can be old or new. It's the weekend and I need something to watch to pass the time. (!)

I've seen Orange is the New Black and a season of the Fosters, which is pretty good. Out of the old ones the L Word, of course, and Lip Service. Those are pretty much the only ones that I know of. Anything else that I missed? Doesn't have to be about girls, can be about guys too.

  2. Teen wolf has gay characters on it. I have been impressed at how well they did with that and how not a big deal it was having gay guys on the lacrosse team and helping the lesbians who were separated in the woods etc

And just when I thought all the gay characters were leaving the show, they bring on another gay man!

This show style of dealing with sexuality is the future of teen tv and it is lovely.

South Of Nowhere (never seen it though), Queer As Folk- the American version is really good, it's mainly about gay men though.

Yeah, South of Nowhere is good...stumbled across it accidentally a while back and ended up binge-watching it from start to finish.

There aren't that many shows around that are specifically LGBT - The L Word and Lip Service were important to me, and although I don't really like it personally, I realize that OITNB is very popular, as is The Fosters...

Others that have frequent major L storylines are Pretty Little Liars, Lost Girl and Glee...

Less major but still good are Greys Anatomy, Rookie Blue, Wentworth and Orphan Black.

And then there are the ones that are just endless agonising subtext (Rizzoli and Isles, anyone?)

Not so up to speed with shows featuring gay male characters, but for the ladies, there's certainly a lot more out there than there used to be.

I would also like to add the mother of all lesbian subtext, Xena: Warrior Princess! If you have seen it, great! If not, get to it!

It's not necessarily LGTB, but United States of Tara is great. Tara's son is openly gay and one of Tara's alters is a man, so she wakes up with a woman or two during the show.

I'm not sure if anime with yuri undertones counts... but if it does: Serial Experiments Lain and Puella Magi Madoka Magica.

I really like MTV's Faking It! It's surprisingly really good.

Brothers and Sisters has gay characters. It's one of the shows I watched during questioning that has helped me in accepting being gay.

It's pretty realistic (as far as TV shows ever really are) about people that accept LGBT people, but also ones that don't. Kevin, the main gay character has an accepting family, somewhat accepting workplace (definitely not all the time though), but his boyfriend Scotty has a pretty strained relationship with his parents.

Vicious is a sitcom starring Ian McKellen and Derek Jacobi as a bickering older gay couple. It's hysterical.

The L Show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, American Horror Story, Orange is the New Black

Also, I feel House deserves a mention with the openly bisexual character of Thirteen

As far as anime goes, I love Revolutionary Girl Utena and Sailor Moon. RGU has Utena/Anthy and Juri, and Sailor Moon has Uranus/Neptune (plus in the anime, Zoisite/Kunzite and Fisheye)

There are mixed opinions about this show, but I enjoyed HBO's Looking. It's pretty new, as there's only one season so far.

I think almost every ABC family show has at least one lesbian couple...
