    Ok, in the past year I've had 4 tuba's start sounding weird when I play them.

    I have NO clue why and 3 out of the 4 times I told my band director.

    I honestly don't know what happened to them; I thought it was because I pulled a tuning slide out without pressing the valves down but I don't think that would mess up the whole instrument you know?

    So; today I picked up my tuba after GENTLY laying it down and guess what;; it sounds weird. :***: :***: :***: :***: :***: :***:

    :bang:

    Why me!?! This will be the 4th time in ONE year. WTF? My band director is going to think I'm a tuba killer! I mean they're oldish like 8 yrs old or something but still why do I keep messing them up when I'm handling them gently and have been treating them the same for 3 years without issue.

    Argh;;

    So now I have to tell my band director I have another screwed up tuba and I just know he's going to look at me like I'm a) stupid b) a crack head c) an instrument killer or d) all of the above

    :frowning2:

    ARGH!

    This is not a "Support and Advice" subject so I've moved it to somewhere more suitable.

    It would suck if he did look at me like a drug addict especially since I'm clean! Lol.

    I'm trying to figure out what I did wrong if I did anything wrong.

    I'm hoping the instruments are just old and he won't think anything of it. Lol.

    All I can think of is tuning slides or maybe something being wrong with your mouthpiece. Have you tried cleaning out your mouthpiece? I don't know what happens to the inside of instruments to make them go out of tune, maybe your instruments are naturally going out of tune and need to be retuned. How do they sound weird?

    could it be the humidity in your house is very different than it is at your school?

    i really don't know, sorry. ask me any question about string instruments and I'll know the answer, though!

    The notes just won't sound right.
    Almost like I'm trying to play a differnt pitch; like having the right fingerings but having my mouth set for something else.

    do you breathe into it for a bit to heat it up? that will bring it into tune depending on the temperature. i dont know tubas well, but i played clarinet and there was a part i could move to change the sound slightly to bring it into tune
