    Sometimes it happens. In one (I can't give a link because it's explicit) the Uke starts out hazing the seme, and controls at first while still remaining the uke, but then the seme takes charge.

    I kinda wish seme and uke archetypes weren't such a staple of yaoi manga and anime in general, it gets to be like once youve seen one youve seen them all because of it. versatile Sekes are kyuter anyways~

    Aren't those names defined by practice anyway? By being dominating, the uke becomes the seme and vice-versa.

    But don't mind me; I just like playing semantics.

    Not really. Uke is defined as bottom/the one who gets penetrated, and seme is defined as top/the one who penetrates. The terms literally translate from japanese words relating to 'pitch and catch'.

    Hmm. I've also heard the terms in martial arts to mean the demonstrator and opponent. That's interesting though.

    Not to mention the always accompanying stereotypes of ukes being small and extremely feminine, if not flatchested girls with penises, and stoic large men being semes.

    That's because the terms are more accurately translates as receiver and attacker. Seme meaning attack/offense and uke meaning receiver.

    In Japanese yaoi this translates as the top being one the offensive and the bottom literally being the receiver.
