Ultimate-Guitar is brilliant. They have a huge lessons section. Only thing, make sure you check the lesson rating before you read it, to make sure it's actually well written and accurate. Anything above 7 should be fine

There is a guy named Marty Schwartz, he has a bunch of beginner guitar songs that he teaches people to play. That's how I learned a lot of my first songs on the guitar.

you'll also want to structure what you practice on depending on what type of music you wanna play if you don't wanna play metal you probably don't wanna practice right hand "gallop" technique or atonal shredding.

I was going to suggest this. Most lessons say put your fingers here and strum. Then if it doesn't sound right you have no clue why.

Justin will show you put your fingers here. Then he will show you if it sounds like this, then this is what you did wrong for pretty much every common mistake on every chord. It also doesn't hurt that he is easy on the eyes :icon_bigg

I would also suggest practicing the chord lessons then skipping down and practicing some of the strum lessons right from the start. When doing the strumming lessons out of order just hold a chord that you know. This way you don't learn 6-8 chords then have to learn different strum patterns. You pick up the patterns and chords at the same time.

The biggest thing I would caution you not to do is try to fly through the lessons too fast. I spent almost three months to get good at 4-5 chords (yea, my older brain and messed up wrist took a ton of training) but I was actually good at all but one (the one I was working on) of them and switching between them when my guitar decided to go live with someone else while I was at work one day. Okay, some jackass stole it!!!
