Okay so the Doctor is now old... he is still the "same" guy, kind of... So why did Clara go full retard mode over it? Seriously, how shallow can she be, that really got me mad... It's not like the Doctor is not already like a gazillion years old, he just...looks older now... And to top it all off, now she's dating this other guy who... i don't even know what his "role" in the whole series is... he's so boring. And she kind of "flaunts" him in front of the Doctor, is she doing it on purpose or is she just stupid like that. I tried liking her but... she is "oozing" stupidity all over the place, and those moments when she tries to act smart... so annoying. Damn, i miss Emma...

    Thoughts?!

Also, if you're not a Doctor Who fan, feel free to discuss huge age gap relationships.

What I like about the age gap is the fact that the show is not so much about people obsessing over how hot the doctor is (although the last 2 have been really cute).

I dont know, Capaldi has a certain....Majesticness that appeals to me.

I love the new Doctor, I think he's more badass than the last two. I think its the eyebrows

    Yep its the eyebrows.

As for the age gap I like the fact that the doctor doesnt flirt around with his companions anymore.

I was sick to death of the Doctor flirting with his companions and found it beyond creepy. I heard it was Peter Capaldi who wanted to put an end to that which only further cemented him as one of my favourite actors.

Thats said I do find him and Dan Pink quite handsome.

It's been speculated that Moffat's doing 2 things at once:

    1. He's backtracking everything he did with Clara with Smith.
    2. He's using her as an image for the newer fangirls, who still seem to want Smith. Basically, the whole Matt Smith closure scene was telling the really new crowd, "This is it. It's over. Yes, the Doctor looks older. Get over it"

It's not just the Doctor's appearance that's changed; his whole personality is different. It's like he's a completely different person; I don't find it hard to see why Clara isn't in love with him anymore.
Plus, I got tired of Doctor-Companion relationships; Clara and Twelve's dynamic is far more interesting.

I think that the choice of an older doctor is actually brilliant. It links back to the classic doctor who, linking old and new together.

I like the new Doctor a lot. I always found the flirting with companions weird; it only felt like it worked with Rose in my opinion, all the other times felt forced and weird.

I like Dan Pink a lot too so I'm glad he's there instead

This is what I've been thinking.
I feel like the relationship only works if the companion leaves before that Doctor does. Rose for example was perfect. Her relationship was always with 9 and 10 who both loved her, it just doesn't work when two characters liked each other, but then one stops and they still travel. Think of how many relationships you know of where the exes are still best friends. Few to none. I liked the companion relationship with 11, Amy, and Rory, there was a romance (Amy and Rory) for those who wanted it, but the Doctor wasn't involved romantically.
Although, I did like River and the Doctor *Hides from rotten fruit being thrown*

Capaldi is NO "Doctor"!!! He does not possess ANY "Doctor" characteristics of any kind.

Someone posted earlier that he is just a completely different person. I agree. This character......whatever character he is attempting to be, has absolutely NOTHING to do with the character of Doctor Who.

Capaldi has not done ANYTHING to ingratiate himself to fans or the series. He is just "there".

He wears boring, dull, colorless clothes. He has NO personality, and he carries NO Time Lord characteristics of any kind.

And on top of all of that, the story lines SUCK!!! Hell, one episode was even a rip off of a story line from the Tom Baker series!!!!!

Capaldi is NO Doctor, never has been, never will be......and I hope this is his ONLY season in doing the Dr.

As for him being older............that pisses me off. Whether the writers throughout the whole Doctor Who series meant it to be this way or not, they set it up and kept it going........where the Dr. gets "younger" at every regeneration!

Now they have royally fucked it up and screwed over the entire DW theme and storyline!

They have finally gotten to the point where its all about the money. It is blatantly obvious they do not care about good story lines or good actors who are right for the part.

As far as the age gap goes..........there has always been an age gap between Dr and companion!

My bitch complaint is.......WHY ARE THERE NO MALE COMPANIONS???????? Its like they are trying to turn the Dr. into a pedophile or something. It's just sickening.

I hope Capaldi kills the show to the point they replace his old, bony ass.

I agree with others that it's not just that the age gap is visible now, it's the fact that this doctor is anti-Smith, so it's a wake up call for Clara. Personally, I liked the 9/10 dynamic with Rose, was fine with the love confusion of Amy and Rory/11, but 12 is setting his foot down, "no hanky panky in the TARDIS." He is a professor now, not a man showing his dates the universe.

    SPOILERS!!!

Clara chose to leave the doctor because he almost got her killed on the moon. That would piss me off too.

There was a age gap even with Matt Smith and David Tennant, and Christopher Eccelston. I miss Rose Tyler, and Emma Grayling too as well. Clara just seems she's the impossible girl, but she isn't. I do like Capaldi though, better than Matt Smith imo, I've been a Doctor Who fan since the 9th Doctor, and watched the older series of Doctor Who, these are just bandwagoners who think they like Doctor Who. Im still watching it, and I love it, I am glad they are going back to the roots of the old Doctor Who.

I am a ridiculous Doctor Who nerd. I've seen all of the existing episodes and most of the recons. I can get into discussions about plotlines from Big Finish or the EDA novels or random BBV videos. I don't think this level of obsessiveness is necessary to be a fan, or that my opinion counts more than a fan who isn't so nuts about delving into the darker corners of canon. But I am a giant fan. And I think Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman are amazing.

I love that he went for minimalism and ended up with Magician.

I'm not really happy with all of Moffat's plots, or with all of the commercialism (but hey, it pays the bills for the BBC and leads to more Who for me, so I can't begrudge it). I'm kind of put off by how awful the characters are all being to each other this series, but...

It's mostly good stuff. There is stuff in the Whoniverse which is genuinely awful. This series is gold in comparison and I'm enjoying the hell out of it.

And I'm really, really, really enjoying the lack of flirting. Because I found that creepy as hell.

What IS this "magician" you speak of?

I heard him use that word when he was a janitor at the school, but it didn't make any sense........well, I guess that would fit his "character", one that makes no sense.

That's another thing I hate about this guy.......he is "in and out" of that accent every few seconds......then he's yelling, then he's barely speaking where you can hear him.....I cant even follow what the hell he is saying, because I cant understand 3/4 of the ramblings coming out of his mouth!!!!

I've got mixed feelings. I liked Matt Smith because he brought a lot of whimsy to the show. I like Doctor Who but it was never a show I took particularly seriously, and I think I prefer it when it takes itself less seriously, too (well, with the exception of some standout episodes like the first of the Weeping Angels, and the Silence and such). Capaldi has definitely brought a different vibe, a little closer to Eccleston's take. I don't mind the age gap at all, but the personality 180 is a little hard to wrap my head around. The first few episodes I watched with him I heard Matt Smith lines coming out of Capaldi's mouth and was disappointed at the delivery. It does seem that as the season goes the writing is a little more in line with his "version" of the Doctor, however, and that is helping. It's possible Capaldi will grow on me, like many fans I often have the knee-jerk "THIS IS DIFFERENT" reaction, and I didn't like Smith when he first appeared either, but eventually I grew to like him better than Tennant.

Personally, I hate the companion-doctor love story, it's just so unoriginal and holds the storyline back. Can't a guy travel around space-time with his gal without any privileges? Seriously, the best companion ever was Donna and it worked really well because they were never in love. Rose, Martha and Amy were just making me want kill them when they went all nuts for the Doctor. Thank god for the huge age gap.
