I always read on the Internet how people don't like Matt Smith's episodes because of the long running stories and blah blah blah, but I really like them; they're complex and always have me hooked. Please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks this? (My favourite episodes are The Waters of Mars, The Eleventh Hour, The Time of Angels, Asylum of the Daleks and The Time of the Doctor, FYI)
I think Matt Smith had a lot of great episodes, as all the Doctors have. These are my favourites from New Who at least. The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit Army of Ghosts/Doomsday Gridlock The Lazarus Experiment Human Nature/The Family of Blood Blink Utopia/The Sound of Drums/Last of the Time Lords Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead Midnight The Stolen Earth/Journey’s End The Waters of Mars The End of Time The Eleventh Hour The Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone Amy’s Choice Vincent and the Doctor The Lodger The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang The Impossible Astronaut/The Day of the Moon The Rebel Flesh/The Almost People A Good Man Goes to War Closing Time Asylum of the Daleks Dinosaurs on a Spaceship Deep Breath
In my opinion, Matt Smith had some of the greatest episodes in the series, and some of the best stories. What I disliked about his era on Doctor Who, was him as the Doctor. He definitely had areas of strength, but I definitely feel a different actor could have done better for the stories he was given. But that's just me. My favourite episode however, was probably this one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVEY5AL5zzk
I always find it sorta strange how everyone's favourite Doctor Who episode barely involves the Doctor. It is a cracker though.
I went off Doctor who during Matt Smiths time, it just didnt seem that good to me. David Tennant had the best story lines for me. I really liked the "The Satan Pit" and "Doomsday".
I do prefer series 1-4 over the more recent, but I LOVE 'Vincent and the Doctor'. I really enjoy all the more historical ones.
I second this! These are all great episodes. Blink, Vincent and the Doctor, The Lodger, and closing time are at the top of my list.
I like the first 1-4 seasons best but 11 is still good. My favorite episodes: The Empty Child Bad Wolf The Christmas Invasion School Reunion Fear Her Doomsday The Family of Blood Blink Partners in Crime Silence in the Library Turn Left The Stolen Earth Journey's End The End of Time The Eleventh Hour Amy's Choice Vincent and the Doctor The Lodger The Impossible Astronaut The Almost People The God Complex
The Waters of Mars will always be my favorite episode. Seeing the Doctor clash with his instinct to save people and his loyalty to the laws of the Timelords is really quite something. Especially when he snaps and has to deal with the consequences. It's also a good demonstration as to why he needs a companion. Not to keep him company, but to hold him back.
The Idiot's Lantern has always been a favorite of mine. Others: Dinosaurs on a Spaceship Asylum of the Daleks Day of the Doctor Sound of Drums
But... Dinosaurs on a Spaceship... it was so... so forgettable. All I remember from it was that the Doctor kissed Rory. Really, all of season 7 was a mess.
I like Matt Smith a lot, more so than the others. I'm also liking Capaldi too. Favorites...hmmm...well...if I went over all of the episodes I liked the list would be too long...so I'll just do one episode/story per season: Season 1- I loved all of it, but my favorite was probably the finale, Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways. Hard choice though. Season 2- Probably Girl in the Fireplace. Season 3- Ooh...since saying Blink would be cliche, I'll do Human Nature/Family of Blood Season 4- Fires of Pompeii. Probably my favorite historical. Specials- Not sure if these count, but the Waters of Mars was easily my favorite from these. One of the more powerful episodes of the show. Season 5- Another really hard one, like Season 1 so many to choose from, buuut I think I'll have to go with Eleventh Hour. Perfect way to start off for a great Doctor. Season 6- The opener, The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon, was awesome. I didn't like the way the arc was resolved, but I'm going to focus on the individual story for this. Season 7- I liked Cold War. You might think it's an odd choice, but I just loved the atmosphere of that entire episode. And also, Ice Warrior! I think it's a hidden gem of that season. Day of the Doctor- Before you question it, yes, this deserves its own category. Season 8- Although it's technically not finished yet, I am really enjoying it. I've got to say, Kill the Moon has been my favorite so far. It's kind of like the anti-Waters of Mars, and because I like that episode so much, it just really resonated with me.
In no particular order and surely missing some episodes: Blink Waters of Mars A good man goes to war The empty child Fires of Pompei Family of Blood and prequel or sequel Utopia/The Sound of Drums/Last of the Time Lords Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead Stolen Earth: Never has the announcement of the arrival of kitchen condiments of doom been more chilling: ---------- Post added 15th Oct 2014 at 12:22 AM ---------- Vincent visiting the Louvre: Vincent van Gogh Visits the Museum | Videos | Doctor Who | BBC America John Smith from the family of blood:
Sadly I lost cable mid season of season 8 so I have no verdict so far other than I don't like the new doctor but Capaldi is doing an amazing job! Really, his acting is superb! But the new doctor... he's just not a likable person anymore... as for favorites of mine... I'mma list one for each doctor that stands out as my favorite of them, since there are to many amazing episodes to list :3 The Dalek Invasion of Earth The Ice Warriors Terror of the Autons The City of Death Earthshock Attack of the Cybermen The Curse of Fenric The Night of the Doctor (I know its short but McGann was so fantastic in it ) The Day of the Doctor (For the War Doctor ;3) Dalek Blink Vincent and the Doctor (REALLY hard, because I love sooo much of Matt's run, but this episode makes me cry so well...) I don't really have a favorite for Capaldi's doctor yet... I'm reserving judgement until I see the rest of his first season!
My favorite episodes all include David Tennant as the doctor.. But one of my favorites is actually when he wasn't in it that much. It is Blink, the 3rd series when he has Martha as his companion.
The Girl in The Fireplace - very beautiful and sad. Blink - F***ing scary! Midnight - F***ing creepy! Turn Left - one of the best stories ever. Listen - the barn scene was fantastic!
Father's day. I was crying... Also 'The doctor dances'. Hearing Glen Miller's music on a modern show was so cool Daleks was also a good one, when the Dalek says to the doctor 'You would make a good Dalek. Blink was also very good... To me, the doctor is Christopher Eccleston. This guy 'from the north' with a leather jacket... About the 'old episodes', anything with Tom Baker on it, the guy was so funny Got mixed feelings about the 80s movie...
