I've enjoyed classical music most of my life. 1812, Four Seasons and Fanfare are among my favorites too. I love a lot of Brahms and Debussy stuff as well.

I'll admit I know very little about true classical music, but I enjoy the style, along with orchestral and choral. Not gospel, although there are a few gospel songs I would like the tune of if the words weren't almighty, hallelujah, and worship every other line.

Great list. Some of my favorites are Beethoven's 9th Symphony, Mozart's Requiem, Bach's Brandenburg Concertos, Tchaikovsky's Capriccio Italien, and Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring.

I can't find much to tie together all the classical stuff I like. I've got Bach, Debussy, Vivaldi and Tchaikovsky in about even amounts. I just listen, and if I like it, I buy it.

    YAY! I love this thread.

My favorite pieces EVER are Tchaikovsky's Piano Concert No. 1, and Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto No. 1! What can I say... he was a musical genius.

I also love Bruch, Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Brahms, Sibelius, and Shostakovich.

I've played some of your list... Bizet, Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, Vivaldi's Four Seasons, Barber's Adagio for Strings... Cool stuff!

Lots of great ones listed already. One I can think to add is Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, love to play the 1st movement. Also a big fan of Felix Mendelssohn.

Although opera may not classify in the same genre, the music from Verdi's La Traviata and Puccini's La Boheme are on the top of my list.

I'm currently listening to Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto No. 2 in G minor, Op. 8, RV 315, "L'estate" (Summer from The Four Seasons). :eusa_danc

    Absolute favorite - Chopin's Fantaisie-Impromptu in c sharp minor

Also on the list: Tchaikovsky's Neapolitan Dance, Holst's The Planets (specifically Jupiter), Piazzola's Oblivion, Bach's Cello suite no. 1, Mendelssohn's Auf Flugeln des Gesanges, Wieniawski's Polonaise Brillante no. 1 in d major, and Pachelbel's Canon in d. There are others, but those are the ones I can think of at the moment.

Chausson's Poeme, Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto in D Major, Sibelius Violin Concerto, Symphonie Espagnole (Lalo), Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in E Minor, Kreutzer Sonata, Bruch Violin Concerto in G Minor, Wieniawski Violin Concerto in D Minor, Dvorák Violin Concerto (I play violin so most of my favorite pieces are violin repertoire)

Might you mean VIII? Perhaps not, but I just thought I'd mention that I've got a wonderful CD of much of Henry VIII's work (much of which might've simply been composed by his court musicians, though for which he took credit anyway), and it's absolutely wonderful. I even arranged a few of his pieces for string quartet a few years ago to play at my high school's Renaissance fair. I would describe his work as melodious music from an odious ogre.

I believe you are searching for the name Sergei Rachmaninoff, though there are many other pieces of music entitled "Vocalise." I played this with my university's chamber orchestra last year, and it felt rather strange being a part of something that sounds so ethereal and emotive. There are numerous transcriptions of this piece (for cello, violin, piano, etc.), but the soprano + orchestra version is the most breathtaking.

Yeah, I also agree with the lack of Beethoven, get some. But I applaud the Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin, I actually downloaded it on my phone. AMAZING. I also the a Rachmonioff Concerto on their too. I love piano music. Was gonna download all the Beethoven piano Concerto's.
