Books Featuring LGBT characters?

Discussion in 'Entertainment and Technology' started by Artistic Ferret, Oct 25, 2014.

  1. I'm a reader I love to read. One problem I can't find many books with LGBT characters in them. I've read a book about a young male (trans) called I Am J and another book about a lesbian love story called Annie on My Mind. Only two. So I was wondering if you guys had any good books featuring LGBT characters. I wish I could find more.

Keeping You a Secret by Julie Ann Peter... probably my favorite
The Miseducation of Cameron Post that was ok... not my favorite but worth reading.
Ask the Passengers... my first LGBT book.

If you're into fantasy, The Last Herald-Mage series by Mercedes Lackey is really, REALLY good. It's a very emotional book though. I can promise you you'll cry very hard.

Annie On My Mind by Nancy Garden is a classic.

I second Keeping You a Secret and the Miseducation of Cameron Post.
    As for others, let's see...
Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit by Jeannette Winterson (lesbian)
Why be Happy When You Could be Normal? by Jeannette Winterson. This one's more of a personal biography, but I quite enjoyed it. (lesbian)
Luna by Julie Ann Peters (trans)
    Ash by Malinda Lo (lesbian)
The Dark Wife by Sarah Diemer (lesbian) (that one can be found online really easily, it's a good read, and the first half is in free audiobook format on her website)
These are all really good and I would recommend any of them.

The "Rainbow Boys" trilogy by Alex Sanchez is pretty good. They focus on three high school boys; one of whom is just coming to terms with his sexuality, one is closeted, and one is open. I don't know a whole lot of other non-furry books, but if you want furry ones, I can give you several.

I've read quite a few gay-themed books over the last month or so and loved everything I've come across so far (in order of ranking):

Little Boy Lost series by JP Barnaby (six books, pretty intense)
The Tales from Foster High series by John Goode (three books)
    Social Skills by Sara Alva
The Rainbow Boys series by Alex Sanchez (mentioned by SwimScotty, three books)
