So, dinosaur fans - what do we think of the first trailer?

As a massive fan of Jurassic Park, I am a bit nervous about the new genetically engineered "D-Rex" stealing the limelight. Also, the idea of the rumored 'tame' raptors worries me a little bit. That being said though, it looks like it might be fun! The director insists our favourite 'normal' dinosaurs will still be important so we'll see. As long as it has any dinosaurs in it, I'll be there. :icon_wink

If nothing else, they've done a great job of making the park look cool.

I'd rather they stick with "real" dinosaurs than create fictional ones based on desired characteristics, but I'm still very excited for this movie. I have no idea if it will be any good, but I'm certainly going to watch and find out.

Is this the next Jurassic Park or a completely different movie? Because I absolutely LOVED Jurassic Park growing up.

I shall watch the trailer now.

My feelings exactly!

This is a sequel, but they're starting with new characters. The basic plot is that someone took over the island from Jurassic Park and managed to create a new, working theme park. The park has been in operation a few years by the time the film starts.

I love JP but I'm really not sure how I feel about this.

I do love the fact they are returning to the whole theme park theme (presumably this is meant to be set many years after the first film right?).

What really bothers me though:
-Chris Pratt - love the guy, great comedian - but I just can't take him seriously in non comedy roles (I just see Andy!). I feel the park ranger/scientist needs to be someone a bit more "hardened"
-The sea park thing is just ridiculous - how are they keeping that beast enclosed? Theres next to no protection for the spectators etc
-Open truck rides? Really
-I just keep screaming "didn't you learn anything from the past films!!!"
-Genetically modified dinosaur...wtf, why?!
-Stupid lady's "what have I done?!" reaction - it kinda worked in the film Deep Blue Sea because the sharks were created for an actual noble purpose and their killer mutation was an accidental byproduct. But in this it just makes you think "well durr! You should have thought about that when creating a super dino for no apparent reason!"

All in all I think it will be a thoroughly enjoyable romp, I'll definitely go see it and be scared silly no doubt (all the JP films terrify me in parts!) - but it looks like a "so bad its good" sort of film.

I can't wait to see it. I actually LOVE Chris Pratt being cast for that movie. The whole notion of genetically re-engineering a mutant dinosaur is a little non-Kosher for me (following the plot of the original movie), but won't pass judgement yet.

I'm excited! Send your kids to a dinosaur theme park. What could possibly go wrong? The raptor they showed looks like the size of Utahraptor, which was pretty big. The liopleurodon (sea monster) part reminded me of Blackfish a little. I agree that tamed raptors seems far-fetched. People have trouble taming even wolves or other big predators. It's a stretch to think raptors would be so loyal to a complete stranger.

I may have to take that back, according to one of the writers on Twitter, there are no domesticated raptors in the movie. I think Chris Pratt's character is meant to be some sort of dinosaur psychologist though, not a stranger.

Jurassic Park III was pretty boring, to me. One or two moments, which are passable, still don't help this film out.

The Lost World, though, is a film I'm on the fence about. When it is good, it's damn good, but when it is bad, it's annoyingly bad.

The original film is fine. The park warden was my favorite character, so when he got knocked off, I was rather irked. It's hard to forget, the scene, of the power going out, and the T-Rex, showing up, in all it's destructive glory, too.

As for this new one. I suspect a popcorn flick. You watch it, have some laughs, and that's that. I expect it to be better than III, but how much, that remains to be seen...

One of the things that made the original so awesome imo, is how they used robots and puppets (same for Star Wars). When they start using too much CGI I start getting bored.

I'm a dinosaur fan, and I feel that JP is overrated. JP1 had 8 minutes of dinosaurs in it, and it's super inaccurate. And JW is feeling like it's going to be a cash in (look at the logo it's just a recolour of JP) That won't stop me considering it, it's just my hopes aren't high.

16. Looks like it'll be fun if you go in with no high expectations

Yes, I am definitely going to see it!

Isn't it supposed to be the start of a second trilogy still?

For real... They never learn, heh.

Btw, it's nice to see the movies kinda scare someone else in parts, too. I mean I saw all the films already but, when they had the 20th anniversary 3D showing last year for the first one, I went and still found myself yelling out 'OH SHIT!' when the T-rex escaped.
