Have you seen the movie "Tron"? That's probably my favorite sci-fi film.

md0123, it is very good. Rather lengthy, but good nonetheless.

    Pretty great, right?

    I love Sci-fi.

The only Sci-Fi I haven't got on with is 2001: A Space Odyssey. Which is meant to be the Sci-Fi movie. I mean, don't get me wrong, the scene with HAL is awesome but it gets a bit too trippy in places for my liking.

Yes. Enterprise not so much, in my opinion, but yes.

2001 is awesome for everything except their handling of the end (which was just bull while watching but sort of makes sense to visually describe ascending to a higher plane of existence). Despite that it is hard to follow in places, it is replete with Kubrick genius, I consider it a success.

Generally though, sci fi is my jam. It is the genre I most understand in terms of writing for pushing ideas to their logical conclusions, and allowing for fantastic happenings that are still bound by physical laws. Right now I'm working on a semi-realistic novel with undercurrents of social commentary, and have an idea for examining the effects on society of AI more capable than a human brain.

Above others it is the genre for thinkers.

I have mixed feelings about the 2001: A Space Osyssey movie but the book by Arthur C. Clarke is amazing. He's now become my favorite author.

People still use the word "rad"?

I live and breathe Science Fiction. I usually find the books way, way better than movies, there's just so much depth that gets lost.

Of course, I'm also old enough to remember when the first Star Wars came out, and what a big deal it was back then.

I adore both the book and film version of 2001 but my favourite sci-fi book is A Scanner Darkly by Philip K. Dick even though some argue that it isn't really of that genre.

I've seen 2001 and it just... Confuses me. I did read most of the book but stopped for.. Reasons.
I do love Tron, a lot, but for science fiction I either have to go with the Ender saga, foundation or the trilogy of five.
All brilliance (though I need to finish foundation and read the last book of the Ender saga).
I also plan to go and see interstellar at some point.

It's fantastic! You can see George Lucas "borrowed" a lot of themes from it.

I don't read much science fiction, but I do read it sometimes.

But the strongest memory of science fiction is 8th grade science. My teacher that year was a huge fan, and he'd often read or retell stories. It would be fun--certainly more fun than read the official science text, and then answer the questions at the end of the chapter. It wasn't until years later that I realized he'd probably been craftily choosing his stories to teach or illustrate some point... Certainly his class was one of the best I had in junior high--he opened up a much bigger world for me than just mere general science.

I only remember bits and pieces--this is more than 30 years ago; however, I do remember encountering Ray Bradbury the first time in his class with selections from Martian Chronicles. Another writer I remember by name (but not what he wrote) is Harry Harrison.
