I thought it might be fun to share the fortunes we've gotten from fortune cookies. Funny, meaningful and horribly-translated fortunes are all welcome! Here are a few of mine:

    Meaningful:

A single kind word will keep one warm for years.

    -words to live by ^^

To avoid criticism, do nothing, say nothing, be nothing.

-This one strikes home on a personal level for me. I'm a strong believer that if you just sit at home and don't do anything, you can avoid life's troubles, but you'll also be avoiding life. Living will always involve some degree of risk, and I'd rather take my chances than cower under my bed.

    Funny:

If only you could get what you want....

-This isn't a fortune :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: to me, it seems like I opened up the door on my fortune to catch it musing over an idea, then it turns to me and says, "I'm sorry, I don't have anything for you today."

  2. There was one that was absolutely pointless and I got so mad:

    Every Rose has its thorn.

I was like HELLO YOU STUPID COOKIE THATS A SAYING, NOW GIVE ME AN ACTUAL FORTUNE!

    hehehe ^^

    Hahaha! I love those! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I have another funny one, but I want to post it later, after I hear some more from others.

    Mine was 'everything is possible'...
Erm, well that's not a fortune, and also is untrue, lol, so instead I took some meaning out of it just for the sake of it and decided I WILL be able to save enough money to go travelling next year

Heh okay, before this thread becomes withers and dies, I'll post that other fortune. Now, it's not technically my fortune, but a friend of mine, who is very emotional and has issues with anger management, got this after a meal at a chinese restaurant:

    You are a happy man.

We nearly died laughing! I mean, even if it wasn't him who got it, it's still a ridiculous fortune! If I were down on my luck and got that fortune, I'd take it as a slap in the face!

Ironically, I am eating a bag of fortune cookies right now...(gros, but better than a bowl of ice cream )

  7. One that I love love LOVE that I got at least a year ago and have kept pinned on the board above my desk at school:

    Fate happens now. You decide.

(Cool idea for a thread, btw, Steam!)

    Thanks ^^

Wow, that really is an excellent fortune! Definately a keeper ^^

I had chinese earlier today, and still have my fortune cookie from it. Let's see what's inside! (opening it now)

We are made to persist. That's how we find out who we are.

    I can dig that ^^

I love Fortune Cookies and I keep the "good" ones in my wallet.
    Favorites:

    Funny ones:

Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there.

If at first you do succeed ... try something harder.

Sing along with the elevator music.

Love is like sweet nectarine, good to the last drop.

I felt inspired to have chinese food today! (oh, ok, I often have chinese...) My fortune cookie had two fortunes in it - does that mean I get to pick the one that I like and ignore the other? LOL!

Who can argue with that? (Well, our resident Sociologist Joey might have something to say! :icon_bigg )

All he might say is that oftentimes in modern Western democracies, the judicial system is often accused of thwarting the will of the people... usually to the extreme betterment of minorities. For a Canada-specific example, see the Vriend decision. I'm sure most of Alberta felt bullied by those "activist" Supreme Court Justices.

Mob rule is not necessarily a fun rule to be subjected to.

    I knew it! Thanks. :smilewave

(I thoroughly enjoy reading your postings - they bring a perspective that I'm just never exposed to in the world of accounting and finance that I live in. I always enjoyed my university electives in science or poli-sci, etc.)

Very insightful, Joey ^^ I too greatly enjoy reading your posts! Your style is very easy to understand, and you consistently open my eyes to new ideas!

Jim, two fortune cookies means two fates. If your soul survives this divine miscalculation, you'll likely end up either becoming a newborn god, or ceasing to exist entirely.

I'm just making this up as I go along, heh. I love forutnes, so I'm always happy to find two in the same cookie!

    Lucky! *pout*

I think it is very well received, I love to read what you write in any thread.

But as for the fortunes/quotes, my friend slipped this one into a cookie, but I still think it counts because it is what I got in my cookie when I hatched it

Haha! Good one, Double Dubya! And yeah, that counts ^^ as long as it's not a Misfortune Cookie, because that's a brand of joke fortune cookies, so I don't consider them true fortune cookies, heh.

I just got one myself ^^ it reads: Doubt is the beginning, not the end, of wisdom. I like that ^^
