Batman is considered one of the most popular superheroes ever. He has been portrayed in a multitude of ways, so why not make him trans? What do you think of the idea? Is it a good idea or bad? What would you think of a transgender batman?
You want Batman to transition into a woman? Or do you mean that you to say that batman was originally born a woman and he transitioned into a man?
Why? I mean if you do that you make him trans literally for the sake of being trans. It's completely pointless.
Transgenderism is something a business magnate would have to keep pretty quiet. That would make a good plot for a different story, but throwing in "secretly a vigilante badass" also would complicate things too much.
Yeah, but ask yourself: is that really a subplot that Batman needs? In my opinion no. A new transgender hero that's fine, great even, but there is literally no point in retconning one of the most famous and established superheroes and making him trans "just because."
Uh, why not create a completely original trans character/hero instead? You get a character that has been trans since it's inception and you avoid pissing off loyal fans of Batman by completely changing a fundamental aspect of the character (with little justification). Honestly, I think your idea would backfire horribly for the latter reason, since it would be all too easy for the huuuge fandom of Batman to redirect their anger and frustration at the sudden 360 towards transgenderism in general (because mob mentality makes people dumb). EDIT: the more I think about it, the more horrible the idea sounds. I can already imagine people claiming that this is part of "the gay agenda" ("See?! They wanna turn us into them!" or something like that).
While it'd be cool to see a trans superhero I'd have to ask why Batman. It's not like his sexuality or gender identity have ever been a relevant part of his character in the past so it doesnt make much sense to focus on it all of a sudden let alone rewrite it totally out of nowhere. I'm all for reamagining characters, or changing up their backstories every now and then to keep things fresh and interesting but this would just be changing the whole character for no real reason as others have already said.
Man. If my friends IRL saw this, they would be blowing up right now. Kinda funny thinking about it. And I would agree. No to Batman. There was already a Batwoman in one of the movies. I'm happy with that/
Now catwoman as a tran would make more sense, and a pansexual batman. Adam West was always gay enough don't you think... Why catwoman, I, uh, didn't see you there. These, uh, tights seem to be getting, uh, tighter. And catwoman was never evil, she just always liked to toy with batman. Get him in her clutches. Bring her back to her lair. Ahem... Uh, why catwoman, I, uh, never knew... ROTFLMFAO Oh yes, and I know just the gay porn star for Robin. And make Alfred a lesbian... there does that cover enough bases...
Why not just make a new trans character? It almost seems like you'd be taking a highly recognizable character and making an extreme alterations for the hell of it. Even though I do understand the recognizability is what makes him a good choice. If it were a different superhero like say, Green Lantern or The Flash who have multiple incarnations, I wouldn't mind one of them being trans. But Batman generally has one identity.
Are we ignoring Batman Inc. then? There could totally be a trans* Batman somewhere in the world. Hell, in Batman Inc. Batman doesn't even have to be a man. Cassandra Cain is the Batman for Hong Kong for a while (although using the name Black Bat). I can totally see this and I would support it 100%. I think it would be super cool.
Interestingly, they made one of the Green Lanterns homosexual, when DC rebooted their entire universe with the New 52. Of course, it was one of the older versions, but it is something to take note of. There's a pro and con with making a new character. With a new character, nobody can say that they're "ruining the character", but at the same time, it's hard for new characters to break through. With an established character, like Batman, you're being pretty ballsy and making a mainstream character into something, well, not so mainstream. But of course, people would bitch and moan... ... as I would do. Batman is pretty much established as he is. It might be interesting to do, in a What If story or an alternate universe, but in the primary universe, no. Batman comics already got enough flak for having a lesbian Batwoman, and another lesbian supporting character. Sadly, adding a transgender element, might just be the last straw -- and this is coming from a transgender individual~! Even in the comic book world, the T in LGBT has the hardest struggle.
Let's not get in there. Why they made him gay? Because it is the only way they can draw interest in their new 52 Earth 2 title. I tried to read it but it is crap... really. Makes little to no sense. The way they advertised it you would think Batman or at least a B class hero would come out of closet... instead they made oldest probably least known/loved green lantern gay in an alternate timeline and killed his boyfriend at the first issue. Heck with his Pink Lantern past I would expect yummy looking Guy Gardner would came out of closet... he was too macho to begin with... like he was trying to cover something. Then there is our beloved Booster... sooooooooooo into his bromance with ex-Blue Beetle (RIP). Instead we had Justice League International where Godiva molested poor guy with her hair... ewwww... like in every issue I read.... double ewwww. If there should be a transgendered character in a comic book, especially in Batman family, I think a new robin would be best suited for the role. This way a talented writer can reflect struggles trans people live with successfully. Simply making a character changing genders feels like handling situation light heartedly. Also while it might upset some of you I think male to female transgender character would be more... hmm... familiar way to introduce transgender problems into comic world. Anyone remember when Loki was a women? Did it make readers view transgender characters more favorably or did it work as comedic factor... mostly nearly handled as an insult in some ways... like Edwin from Baldur's Gate 2 video game. For me... both as a comic book fan and a person who wants to make his own comic... this issue is so important... more important than gay/lesbian issues. To being with most people... even some gay and lesbians still don't understand transpeople... we need to present favorable examples... the ones people can feel their pain when they look at the mirror.. the one when people would irk/panic with them everytime they went into bathroom. Without empathy you can't make people understand other's feelings. When they don't understand others feelings they don't view them as humans at all. Sorry for casting a dark shade into thread. I will take my leave now. Edit: Hmm come to think of it, Female to Male trans person might be a good idea to introduce with more reasonable story... I can't remember where was that character... either in an online comic or some superhero roleplaying game rulebook... there was that girl who is using an Iron man like armor... which looks like male... so that might be a nice starting point. A girl who is more comfortable as armored vigilante who is known as "he" and has hard time out of armor. He he ideas ideas... you gotta love them.
I meant actually being Batman. Sure, there could be a new Batperson, as long as it isn't Bruce, Barbara, Luke, or Kate.
