I'm not sure if this is in the right place but has anyone seen the back story to this song? Do any of you guys get angry when you see the video? or is it just me? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYSVMgRr6pw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKzwZnyvLcE
The video itself doesn't make me angry. In fact, this is what I've said about it publicly several times. I would like to add another interview to this. You can find it here.
I love this song I really need to avoid youtube comments. I hate it when people say that they dont agree with homosexuality but dont hate gay people. Whats there to agree or diagree with? Brainwashed idiots.
I love that song and I wouldn't say the music video makes me angry but I thought it was sad actually. Also because closet case Vladimir Putin loves to make like harder for lgbtq in russia.
The song is a welcome bit of soul and got popular despite not being terrible pop. I wouldn't call it the greatest song ever, but it did hit me much harder than most new songs.
I'm not a Top 40 kinda guy, but have to admit I like that song. Lyrically and just the way he delivers it.
I happen to be a fan of AP-Top 40 songs, and Take Me To Church is a song I really like. It calls out religious hypocrisy and Russia for their anti-LGBT Propaganda laws. The lyric "Command me to be well" is also associated to famous outspoken atheist the late Christopher Hitchens. The Church he is referring to is his lover's bedroom, and he also makes more lines to vilify the Church for their anti-LGBT positions. I also love the music video, as it is made as a tribute to all of those affected in Russia by the growing hatred of LGBT individuals there. I hope Hozier makes some more hits as well, as he's too good to simply be a one-hit wonder.
I adore that song. It hit me so hard when I first listened to it and then I couldn't stop. Even when I had to walk to class I brought Youtube up on my phone and kept hitting "replay." I haven't seen the music video, but there were clips in the interview that I watched. It made me feel sick, but in the way that it's meant to.
One of the few songs whose lyrics I've memorized to heart because it means too much for me and I've replayed bliss a billion times. Heard the song, fell in love, saw the video, and was beyond love. This guy is genius and his style is unparalleled.
Quite the contrary; the song is good IMO because it so closely resembles the smoky, bluesy style that pop has otherwise completely abandoned. Compare it to "House of the Rising Sun", another awesome song I think is quite like it.
I think Hozier is quite brilliant with the message of this song. It's not just a "be loud and proud" song, or a "fuck the church" message either. His point is specifically to condemn institutions that attack humanity and people's right to advocate for themselves. Do love how he compares the youtube comments section to a public bathroom wall
I had listened to the song several times, but never really paid attention to the message until I saw the video. And the video is….depressing. :icon_sad:
I loved the so…still liveit nd the video was so incredibly powerful, I was bothered by what the people in the video were Doing but the message that was being sent was simply amazing. I had to be reminded that it was just a video but still, it happens out there somewhere every day and that thought off that happening just kills me…but wow it was an amazing song!
Hozier is one of my favorite new artists, I've loved him since his From Eden EP. Take Me to Church is just so raw, powerful and emotional, his delivery is insane. He doesn't make you feel emotion the way that Sam Smith or Adele can imo, but the message behind this is incredible and the music video is heart-wrenching. I respect him for standing up for what he believes in, can't wait to see what else he has in store.
i first heard it on the "giselle-silk" playlist almost every song on that youtube playlist is really powerful and/or emotional especially daughter-youth. i love my music from trap to classic , from rap to dubstep. the world of music is vast and amazing. so yeah take me to church is a brilliant masterpiece of orchestrated sound waves. the video made me cry as well :,( love it
