When I say powerful songs I mean a song that fills you with a strong emotion. A song that triggers a strong emotion. The triggers can be lyrics, a catchy guitar riff that fills you with emotion. Or a song that keeps building up and releases it all during a chorus and it becomes so powerful. The best way to put it is, try imagining yourself performing or singing a song, and that song drives you to tears or fills you with emotions as you play it. But don't limit yourself with sad songs. It can be happy songs or whatever fills you with emotions. I know a lot of songs like that. Most of them are from Japanese artists. There is a lot of them where they just fill me with emotions right as they bust into the chorus. You don't even need to understand the or the lyrics. Just when you hear it you feel empowered or full of emotion. But there can be many. It's just to me, the Japanese are way better at making powerful songs. It doesn't have to Japanese music. Just post a song that that hits you hard with emotion.

-Happily Ever After - Shoko Nakagawa
    It's has it's moments.

    -Shukan Sentimental - SCANDAL
    -Same as above.

    -Fuss Fuzz - Maon Kurosaki
    Same as above

    -Reason - Nami Tamaki
Big fan. She does a good job.

-Face of Fact (Resolution Version) - Kotoko
    J-pop really hits hard.

    -Re-sublimity - Kotoko
    Her again

And the hardest hitting song to my emotions out of the J-pop that I have heard so far is:

Rokutousei no Yoru (Lower Pitch Version) - Amir
The original version hits just as hard.

If you like Jpop I recommend "Moon and Sun," one of the endings used in One Piece. But even more than that, listen to "Forward" by BACK-ON. These are the two most powerful songs I can think of that I've heard in Jpop.

Most powerful song I've heard recently regardless of genre is "Unity" from Shinedown.

But if we're talking utter power and emotion, that's pretty much what the power metal genre itself exists for. Though I don't really know where to begin recommending a standout. Let's go with "Liberty" by Heavenly. That'll drive you through the last minutes of any final boss battle worth its salt.

Off the top of my head:

ET Soundtrack Flying Theme - John Williams
    Oh yeah - Ash
    Winning Days - The Vines
Do You Believe in Me - Catatonia
    Pennyroyal Tea - Nirvana
Hysteria - Muse (mainly for the riff that starts about 2 minutes in)
    White Elephant - Ladytron
A Design for Life - Manic Street Preachers
    Love Bites - Def Leppard
Wild Horses - The Rolling Stones or The Sundays
    Electricity - Suede
    The Dance - Tangerine Dream

Also, and a disclaimer first: I categorically deny that the following song has ever made me experience any emotion, or that I have ever experienced any such soppy feelz, ever, in my whole life, at all. That said:

Everything I do - Bryan Adams

*Runs and hides from thread* I never said it you hear me! You must have imagined it!

Just went through playing a game and I had heard a few songs that really hit hard again. Then I was reminded that I have the OSTs on my iTunes.

    Final Fantasy X Piano Collection:
    -Besaid Island

    -Decisive Battle
    -Ending Theme

    Final Fantasy X-2 Piano Collection:
    -Wind Crest ~The Three Trails~

    Final Fantasy X OST:
    -To Zanarkand
    -The Splendid Performance
-Blitz Off! (This song always gets me so pumped)
    -The Revealed Truth
-Assault (This song always gets me pumped for battle. On an Fighter Jet playlist of mine.)
    -Via Purifico
-Sutenki Da Ne (Okay. We all cried tears of whatever during the scene when this song played. And don't you deny it.)
    -Wandering
-A Dream That Will End Some Time
    -Challenge (Another pump up song)
-Seymour Battle (And another pump up song)
    -Ending Theme (Credits)

    Final Fantasy X-2 OST:
    -Eternity ~Memory of Lightwaves~
-Let Me Blow You A Kiss (Pump up song)
-Paine's Theme (Not really an emotional song. Just tossing it in here because i love it's Jazziness. Makes me feel good.)
    -Yuna's Ballad
    -Eternity ~Band Performance Version~
    -1000 Words ~English Version~
-1000 Wards ~Piano Version~ (Not The same as from the Piano Collection)

Game soundtracks have always done great jobs in making an emotional impact. If I remember anymore, I will be sure to post them up.
