Hi, I'm doing this research paper for my first ever university english course (yay!) and my professor thinks I was a bit to ambitious with my thesis. I want to research how the changing presentation of gay teenagers on television has a positive impact on coming out. The paper is only supposed to be 2500 words at an absolute maximum so I need to condense my thesis and make it a bit more specific. And so to my question(s): What are your favorite shows with gay characters in them? Which of these shows portray gay teenagers in the most positive light? Thanks for all your input!
Xandir from Drawn Together Desperate Housewives - Andrew - i can identify with him a LOT as a gay teen from where his mom doesn't agree with his sexuality and him and i have done some of the same things fyi NO i am not a prostitute lol
From Will & Grace: Will, Vince, Jack, Karen, and Beverly Leslie From MTV's Spyder Games: Ivan From As The World Turns: Luke Snyder (the only gay teen character I know of)
Given how confusing mine is, I'm pretty sure you won't be able to include it. But I'll tell you anyway. Robbie Sinclair, from Dinosaurs. In the early 90s, when this show was on, homosexuality was still a rather taboo subject. That was especially true on a show like this, which was run by Henson Industries and Disney. So when the writers decided to do a show about "alternative lifestyles", parental expectations, and tolerance, they decided they'd have to find another way to get their point across. So Robbie didn't come out as a homosexual. He came out as a vegetarian. It was possibly the best episode of the series. Robbie has a fight with his father about "there's more to being a dinosaur than what he eats". He endures taunts of "herbo". He has a heart-to-heart with his best friend, who reveals that he's a vegetarian, too. "I've always kind of suspected. Ever since I was twelve, whenever I see vegetables? I feel kinda...hungry." Lex
As others have said: "Skins" and Maxxie played by Mitch Hewer, who is incredibly good looking "Shameless" and Ian Ghalager, played by Gerard Kearns gives (I think) a positive depiction of the gay teen in a very poor area Finally "Queer as Folk" (the English version, not the US version), but the gay characters are more stereotypical
