So this is for people from different countries to America, and the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Now I like Australian music including the much less popular stuff and from Australia you don't see all that often popularity from Australian groups around the world. Now for all of you guys, when you listen to music do you make an effort to try and listen to music made by local artist(when I say local I mean from your country of origin or where you live). And if yes what is your favourite local artist.

My favourite is probably either Ikon or David Thrussell and his many projects including Snog, Soma and Black Lung).

Well, I don't strive to listen to Canadian artists, but I do like some. Like Loverboy, Rush, City and Colour, et cetera.

Same as Johnny. My favourite Canadian band I didn't even know was Canadian until long after I started listening to them (The Tea Party).

    Not really.
Most popular Dutch songs are typical Dutch pop songs, which I do not like at all.
This guy is one of the few good Dutch musicians:

Although he's famous worldwide for creating this:

Also like this band, which despite the English name is actually Dutch:

My family originally comes from Puerto Rico, and no I do not listen to music from there. It is far away from my taste. However, I do listen to music from other South American countries. They surprisingly have some good deathrock.

And about your comment about America, I live there and I don't listen to the music. I can't think of an American artist I do listen to, at least as of now. Most are from Japan or the UK.

Of course I do! My mum comes from Tuvalu. I grew up listening to music from there and other regions of the South Pacific. I still do sometimes. New Zealand music is okay.. I wouldn't put a genre on it but I do listen to NZ artists like Ladi6, David Dallas, Brooke Fraser.

Not really. I like Ilse DeLange and I like Within Temptation but I don't really listen to them or anything.

I like the band Stereophonics and they're Welsh  As for traditional Welsh folk music (harps e.t.c.)? No thanks...

I gotta be honest, most of the music I listen to are either American, Brit, Japanese etc. But I try to be as open as possible when it comes to music. One of my favourite Filipino band is Up Dharma Down and though it has influence of the Western Culture, they're still one of the most interesting music group I've ever listened to.

Other Filipino bands/artists (who are more traditional in terms of the instruments they're playing) that I like are

For people, I do not actually mean like completely native music, for example I listen to plenty of Aussie Artists but I don't listen to our Country/Folk Music, Indigenous Australian music I don't listen to. I mean like any electronic, rock, pop, disco artists that you listen to that are born in your country of origin.

This applies to me as well.

I listen to quite some Spanish songs and Japanese vocaloid/UTAUloid songs. Then I also happen to listen to Portuguese and Italian songs. Oh, and I like certain English songs too. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Canadian music is basically American music, though it is arguable our country music developed independently of the U.S.

I love a lot of French Canadian artists, and a couple Canadian artists.

This song is very Canadian, just not popular. I sorta wish English canadians listened to more French stuff.

Then there's a lot of good English Canadians, I know of a lot more French artists but there stuff is only available on CBC radio and I can't find a proper link for them.

These songs really remind me of where I'm from, they're both from small town Ontario.
This is real country music in my opinion, real Canadian country rock.

    I'll add a couple random groups. K-OS I really like, he's a rapper/singer from Toronto

Broken Social Scene is also a pretty awesome group.

Hmmm... INXS? I can't forget the day, back in '97 when Micky passed away, short after me becoming a fan.

I don't like much the german Schlager Musik, it's too sugary and monotone. Now there is a few german artists I listen to regularly :
    -Kraftwerk (huge fan here)
    -Herbert Grönenmeyer
    -Joachim Witt
    -Wolfsheim
    -Falco
    -Die Ärtzte, Rammstein and co.
... And I guess you could also include (my dearest) Ivan Rebroff.
Rebroff was born in germany and he had been singing russian and german songs in both languages, having a russian style and his looks/voice were just perfect to me.

I enjoy very much traditional russian songs, like Kalinka and so on.

well, yes... though Portuguese Pop music is a total fail. .-.

but these are some artists I like:
noiserv - I actually got the chance to talk to him... he's the best indie artist in my country, hands down
Expensive Soul - they're from my hometown, so it's sorta mandatory to love them ahha
Amália Rodrigues - just give a listen... you might not understand the lyrics, but you'll understand where I'm coming from (there's a reason she sold out stadiums all over the world)
D.A.M.A - their music makes me smile

I also really enjoy brazilian music.

I listen to a few Norwegian bands, but maybe my favourite now has to be Grand Island:
