Right now listening to Incantations... Somebody knows or listens to him? Which is his best album in your opinion? How many hidden messages have you cracked on your own? Have you ever tried to play his music yourself?
His original Tubular Bells from the early '70's is awesome, the one he did in the early 2000's is better produced, but has lost that original edgy quality that made the original such a classic (and Richard Branson rich!).
Man, right there with you on Tubular Bells. Got into him in high school when one of my friends got me high on weed the first time....
Back then were days when people had to buy the music, of course he became rich... He just saw the oportunity : Oldfield was young and overwhelmed by sucess. Sadly is a pretty common story in the music industry. It's ironic that in Oldfield's case the explotation was total : He played all the instruments in Tubular Bells, plus composing and performing and so on... Many Tubular fans around... I'd rather have the original, but the 3rd and speciall the 2nd were good too. The first song I heard was "Altered States" on the radio, as I was a child, and I just ran to spend all my money on it I can listen to all his albums, except Crises. My fav is Ommadawn. I wouldn't say better than Tubular, it's just different, and transmits different emotions.
