Anyone watch Faking It on MTV? It's about two girls in high school who get caught in a lie that they're a lesbian couple and they sort of go along with it, then one of the girls realizes she's in love with her best friend (who's her "girlfriend") It's all about questioning sexuality and stuff and it's a really great show. There's also an intersex main character. It kind of made me start to think a lot about my sexuality more and it's also just an awesome show. P.S. Any Karmy shippers out there?
By the way I think they're showing encore episodes every Tuesday leading up to the "season 2b" premier. (There are also some bad quality vids of the episodes on youtube)
I watch it as well, but I was never into the whole Karmy thing. I'm not into the whole best friends fall in love trope.
It is problematic in some ways. The premise of the show is that two girls become popular by faking being lesbians. This can in a way trivialize the struggles many young queer people face when coming out (because how many schools are really like this?) and kind of supports the whole girls "pretending to be gay for attention" trope. That being said, there are some good aspects to it. Representation of an intersex character is something you don't see often. They also show the main character Amy's exploration of her own sexuality and her struggling with coming to terms with it. It's not perfect. And it's definitely not a television masterpiece. But it's cute and fun sometimes
I only watched season 1 but I kinda liked it. God I almost peed in my pants when amy and karma kissed in front of their schoolmates. But yeah just like what you guys said it's not really perfect because it has flaws like karma pretends to be amy's girlfriend but she's having sexual encounters with liam, and amy and karma pretend to be lesbians to boost their popularity.
After the first season I feel like the show gets a little better in that sense. I feel like they were kind of annoying sometimes in the first season, but after that there's more character development, even for Karma and it gets more interesting.
Love Faking It! It's pretty funny too at times. Finally decided to watch it in January after passing on the show twice, because I kept hearing people talk about it. Now I can't wait for its return and have turned to fan fiction to fill the void. Reamy <3
Yea! Finally released the return date, can't wait... end of August is a long ways away though. :icon_sad:
