    Omigawd...

I'm so sick of logging into my e-mail accout and, seeing unread messages in the inbox, getting excited only to find out that my new e-mails are offers for Viagra or information about a new sale at Victoria's Secret...

    Seriously... WTF Chuck
Victoria's Secret I can understand... I buy cologne there, and I may have given them my e-mail address by mistake.

    But Viagra?

    I'm 16... I don't need Viagra.
I'm super careful about where I type in my e-mail address. I don't just put it into to every site.

What places do y'all get spam e-mails from?

Who do you have your account with? I got all kinds of junk when I had a yahoo account and even more when I had hotmail. Best I remember, hotmail actually gives out your address.

Sometimes it depends. The general email account at work (outlook) is horrible for this stuff. Say you are in the UK and BT is your internet provider, they give out your email to companies for money. It happens reguarly. Same with some other things you sign on for. Just make sure when you sign up with an email read EVERYTHING on the page because sometimes there is a little clause down the bottom saying if you check this box we will keep your email confidential.

Also I have a gmail account, and NEVER get spam. I am dead serious I have not gotten unwanted messages in my inbox because gmail's spam filters are the best.

I'm with Hotmail, but the Viagra offers I get are clearly not official businesses
The subject line looks like this:

FW: FW: Regina Spackerholtz - ViAGra $1

Sounds about right. Sketchy businesses sending out sketchy emails. As tomahto72 said, gmail is the way to go. It is kind of a pain to switch all of your accounts the new address, but it saves you so much junk mail.

Also spammers just send out names to random email address at the domain. So they will send it to [email protected] [email protected] .... [email protected] and eventually they will hit a good email addresses. The ones that don't bounce they know are valid email addresses. The other thing they do is try commons, [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] nd so on.

Then they also use serial numbered images in the email. So they know which email image xyz1234 was embedded in so when it is downloaded they know someone actually reads that account. That is why most mail reader don't download images by default anymore.

I never get spam on my main email address, which is Hotmail. I get plenty on the dummy emails I use for people I don't like and sites I'm not sure about, though. I'm always amused by the 'increase the size of your penis' ones. Intended recipient fail.

I switched over to Gmail because my yahoo account had about 8000 unread messages, after deleting them all, the next day, 3000 more were there.

Figured someone was a butthole and posted my email address somewhere -.-

somtimes there are some promotion sites that sign contracts with email companies (yahoo, MSN, Gmail etc.) to give them email to send promotional ads out of their filter of emails within such category.

I will explain. When u sign up for an e-mail adress they usually ask for u to check boxes of topics your interested in which may have popular commercial slogans and images beside the check box ie. religion, eduation, food, culture, adult information, family etc.

I checked NONE of the boxes and just continued so I seldom get ads and when I do get them they go straight to my junk which I never go theough anyways. Maybe u checked off a few and the categories of interest which u tick off match the sites who are e-mailing u for promotion.

So. I higly doubt u went to buy viagra and droped ur e-mail adress and U went to Victoria Secrets and left ur e-mail address by accident. that was funny though.

I had to ditch my hotmail email account because 98% of the emails I got through there were spam.
I use gmail now, and I've never had unwanted spam
